I think it ultimately comes down to what you want from your setup. For street driving vs. track, your choice can vary widely! Anyone thought about going dual-carb for the 302?
Just when I thought we were all friends here, you suggest dual-carb! Haha, while it’s cool, isn’t that overkill for a street engine?
When I upgraded my Ford 302, I went with a Holley 650. The power difference was amazing! Just make sure to properly tune it for optimal performance.
That’s great to hear! I also have a Holley, but it’s a 600 CFM. What’s the tuning process like for you?
I used an Edelbrock Performer 650 on mine, and it ran pretty smoothly right out of the box. A little fine-tuning, and I had it dialed in nicely!
I love the Edelbrock carbs! Was it a simple drop-in installation for you?
Installation was straightforward, but tuning took some time to get it just right. I suggest having a wideband O2 sensor for tuning.
I’ve actually been experimenting with a QFT (Quick Fuel Technology) carb. It’s been a bit finicky, but I love the responsiveness!
Interesting choice! I’ve heard they can be tricky. What kind of tuning issues have you faced?
Sometimes it runs rich, so I had to adjust the jets. It can be frustrating! But when it’s dialed in, it’s a beast.
Doesn’t sound too bad! Speaking of tuning, has anyone had success with a 4-barrel? I’d love to hear if they perform better.
I’m a 4-barrel fan! I ran a Demon carb before switching to Holley. Both were solid, but the Holley was easier to maintain.
I once used a junkyard carb on my 302…big mistake! Sometimes cheap is really not the way to go. Live and learn, right?
Haha, I can relate! I made a similar mistake once too. What’s the funniest mishap you’ve had while tuning?
Once, I attached a fuel line backwards and pumped gas all over myself! Thought I was going to give my neighbors a surprise!
Good times! It’s always nice to laugh at our tuning disasters later. Thanks for all the insights, everyone!
