Kicker Tailgate Speaker in My GMC Won't Turn On - Any Ideas?

Funny you say that! I’m starting to feel like a detective on this. :joy:

Is anyone using the Kicker with a different vehicle? I wonder if there are any universal installation tips?

I’ve got mine in a Jeep, and while installation was straightforward, the sound quality isn’t as good as expected. Maybe I did something wrong.

Check your power source, too. If the Kicker isn’t receiving enough power, it simply won’t turn on. It could be a fuse issue as well.

Good point! I’ll definitely check the fuses before anything else. Thanks for the heads up!

I had similar issues with my Kicker Tailgate Speaker. It turns out the battery connections were loose. Once I tightened them, it worked perfectly! Hope this helps!

Thanks for sharing that, Jason! I’ve checked the battery but didn’t think about the connections. I’ll give that a try!

I found that sometimes the speaker won’t turn on if it’s still connected to my Bluetooth. Make sure to disconnect it first and then try turning it on.

Great tip, Jay! I often forget to disconnect before trying to use it. I’ll check that out!

Have you checked if the speaker has a reset function? Sometimes doing a hard reset can solve the problem.

I had a similar experience, and a reset worked wonders for me! Just press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds.

In case it doesn’t work out, consider upgrading to a Bluetooth speaker that specializes in outdoor use. I recently got a JBL that has amazing sound!

Not a bad idea, Lee! I love JBL products. But I hope to fix my Kicker first!

I feel like Kicker products can be really hit or miss sometimes! Just last week, my friend had the same issue with his.

True, April! I’ve had great experiences, but other times… not so much! I guess it’s the luck of the draw.

Last time my speaker wouldn’t turn on, I jokingly asked if it was on a caffeine break! But yeah, I ended up just replacing the batteries.
