I agree, especially in competitive sports gear where it sees more wear and tear.
What about using wax? Does it provide additional scratch protection?
I wouldn’t recommend wax. It can leave a residue; better stick to coatings.
LOL! Just make sure to not wax your carbon fiber like it’s a surfboard!

I’ve had my carbon fiber bicycle for over a year now, and I can say it scratches easily. A small fall caused a noticeable gouge. Luckily, it was repairable with some epoxy resin.
That’s interesting, ghall! I’ve heard carbon fiber is tough but can be prone to superficial scratches, especially in tight spaces. Does the epoxy blend well with the original finish?
I use a carbon fiber case for my tablet. I’ve noticed light scratches, mainly from keys in my bag. They haven’t affected performance but are visible under sunlight. It appears the material has a tendency to show marks more than you’d expect.
Exactly! My carbon fiber watch has similar issues. It’s beautiful but can get scuffed just by brushing against my jacket zipper. Has anyone found a good method to protect against this?

I recently scratched my carbon fiber automotive parts while detailing my car. I used a harsh cleaner by mistake. The scratch was deep, but a polish made it way less noticeable. Definitely a learning experience!

That’s a relief to hear! I’ve been hesitant to use any sort of chemical on my carbon fiber bike components. What kind of polish did you use?
I have a carbon fiber rowing shell, and it has several small scratches from transport and moving it around. They’re minimal, though. I think being careful while transporting them is key.
