Best Motorcycle Helmet for Big Heads?

That’s fair, johndunn! But remember, comfort is key too. A heavy helmet could make your ride unbearable. What brands have you all found that balance comfort and safety well?

Yes! A heavy helmet can be a pain during long rides. Try looking into brands like AGV or Shoei—they’re known for their lighter helmets with good safety ratings. Plus, they often have sizes for bigger heads!

I’ve heard great things about those! I’m also considering Bell helmets; they have a good reputation too. Anyone tried their larger sizes?

I have a Bell and it fits my big head well! They meet DOT standards, and their higher-end models also comply with SNELL certification. Definitely check them out, adamvillarreal.

Why do we have so many safety standards? It’s like trying to understand a maze. However, a basic grasp could help with better choices. Do you think higher prices always guarantee better safety?

That’s a good question! Sometimes, it’s about the brand and their reputation as well as safety features, not just price. It’s worth doing some research!

Or maybe you just pay for the flashy design? Helmet fashion is a whole other discussion! But seriously, safety should always come first. Happy riding, folks!

True! But I often wonder if the designers have big heads too. Anyway, thanks for the insights everyone! I feel more equipped to make a choice now.

I have a big head too, and finding a comfortable helmet was a challenge! I ended up getting the Arai Signet-X. The interior padding conforms nicely, and the ventilation is top-notch for long rides.

That’s great to hear! I’ve heard Arai helmets are generally well suited for larger heads. Do you find it heavy over long distances?

I actually prefer the Shoei RF-1400. It’s lightweight and has excellent airflow. I’ve worn it for hours without it feeling suffocating.

I’ve heard good things about the RF-1400! How does the padding compare to other models?

The padding on the RF-1400 is very plush but not too bulky. It really makes a difference on long rides. If you have a bigger head, I’d also recommend checking sizing charts carefully.

I’ve had a different experience with my HJC RPHA 70. The sizing ran small for me, and the airflow wasn’t as great as I’d hoped. I’m curious if others have had similar issues with HJC helmets.

I’ve heard mixed reviews about HJC. They seem popular, but it’s interesting to hear about sizing issues. What do you guys think about Bell helmets for larger heads?

I once tried a Bell Qualifier and it was surprisingly comfortable! The padding was decent, but I wouldn’t call it ‘high-end.’ It was fine for short rides, but I prefer something more breathable for longer journeys.

Sounds like it might not be ideal for long rides. What about the materials used? Are they breathable?

In my experience, the materials vary a lot. Sometimes, they look and feel breathable, but after a few hours, you realize they don’t handle sweat well. I’d prioritize good moisture-wicking fabrics.

True, if I had a dollar for every time I was sweaty in a helmet! :joy: Speaking of, what do you all think about the importance of vent placement? Is it worth considering for bigger heads?

Haha! Definitely! Vent placement can make a huge difference. If it’s in the wrong spot, it’s useless. Make sure vents are adjustable for varying weather.
