License Plate Screws Stuck? Share Your Tips!

Interesting idea! I never considered that before. Do you think it affects how tightly the screw holds the plate?

It does hold tightly, but you need to ensure the washers are the right size. I suggest checking every so often to make sure they haven’t degraded.

I feel like I just end up stripping mine every time I try to remove them! Any tips for avoiding that?

I hear you! Use a socket wrench instead of a screwdriver. It’s easier to get a good grip and less chance of stripping.

Well, if you do end up stripping them, have you tried using a rubber band in between the screwdriver and the screw head? It increases friction and can help grip the screw better!

That sounds like a clever hack! I’ll definitely give that a try next time. What’s the worst that could happen?

Just remember to check regularly for any rust or debris. Prevention is key, and cleaning the area around the screws helps keep things from getting stuck in the first place.

I’ve seen people recommend using Loctite, but is that really necessary for license plates? Seems like a bit overkill to me.

It can be overkill, haha! But if you’re in a windy area or routinely drive on bumpy roads, it might help keep the screws secure. Just don’t go overboard.

I’ve had a rough time with stuck license plate screws! Have you tried using a penetrating oil? Let it sit for a bit before attempting to unscrew.

Great tip! Another method I found effective is using a rubber band over the screw head to increase grip.

I once had a screw so stripped it was impossible to turn with a screwdriver. I ended up using a screw extractor kit, and it worked like a charm!

Can you recommend a specific extractor kit? I’ve never used one before.

I’ve used both the extractor kit and the rubber band method. They can both work well, but patience is key. Don’t rush it!

I tried using pliers on a stripped screw once, and let’s just say it didn’t end well. Any better suggestions?

You definitely want to avoid damaging the screw head even more! Have you thought about drilling it out? It’s a last resort but can be effective.

Drilling can be risky, though. I think I’d rather try the rubber band method first before going that route! What do others think?

I agree! It’s less invasive and worth a try before making drastic moves.

Support for the rubber band idea! It saved me from a complete disaster last month when I was replacing my plates.

If all else fails, there’s always the ol’ ‘last resort’ heat method. Heating the screw can sometimes expand it enough to loosen it.
