Passenger Side Dipstick for SBC - What's the Deal?

I’ve had success with the Moroso dipstick. It’s been spot on for me since I installed it. No more guessing!

Thanks for that tip! I’ll look into Moroso. My current one is driving me nuts!

Has anyone dealt with leaks around the dipstick area? I noticed some oil seeping out and it’s concerning.

Yes, sarajensen! I had a similar problem. A new O-ring solved my leak issues. You might want to give that a try.

O-rings, sounds easy enough. But what if it still leaks after replacing it? Are there any tips to prevent this?

Check the dipstick tube itself for cracks. That could also be a culprit.

This all sounds like quite the challenge. I’m new to all this. Is there a foolproof way to check oil levels, regardless of dipstick issues?

One method I use is to check the oil through the valve cover. Just make sure it’s cold when you do it.

That’s an interesting method, usellers! I’ll have to give that a try. Any other quirky tips?

Well, you could always just pour a bit, check it, and repeat until you find the right level. Just don’t overdo it—otherwise, it’s a slippery slope!

Haha, that could make for a hilarious DIY video! But really, I’d prefer a sensible solution.

I’ve heard that installing the passenger side dipstick on an SBC can be a bit tricky, especially with custom engine bays. Make sure to use a flexible dipstick tube if space is tight.

Thanks for the tip! Do you have any specific brands for the flexible dipstick tubing that work well?

When I installed mine, I had to slightly modify the mounting bracket to fit my headers. It made a significant difference in the angle and allowed for easier access.

That’s a good point! What kind of modifications did you make exactly? I want to avoid any mistakes.

I just used some aluminum spacers and longer bolts to adjust the height of the mounting point. It sounds simple, but it really made it a lot easier to reach.

Great idea! I’ll definitely look into that. Any tips for ensuring accurate oil level readings afterward?

Make sure to check the level after running the engine for a few minutes, so the oil is circulated. Let it sit for a minute before checking to avoid false readings.

Solid advice! What if my dipstick is too short? Any ideas for a workaround?

You can consider extending your dipstick with a short piece of tubing. Just ensure it doesn’t interfere with any moving parts; safety first!
