Thoughts on the Star Racing 3/4 Cam for Better Performance?

I’m considering upgrading my engine’s camshaft to the Star Racing 3/4 cam, and I’d love to gather some insights from anyone who’s used it or has experience with similar performance cams. Here’s what I’ve been thinking:

Why the 3/4 Cam?

I’ve read that the Star Racing 3/4 cam is designed specifically for racing applications. It claims to offer improved torque and horsepower, which is exactly what I’m after for my setup.

What to Consider?

  • Compatibility: Is it a direct fit for most engines, or are there specific models that it’s best suited for?
  • Performance Gains: What kind of power improvements have you seen? Any horsepower or torque figures would be super helpful!
  • Installation: How tough is it to install? Should I attempt it myself, or is it wise to go to a professional?
  • Driveability: How does it affect the daily driving experience? Any noticeable changes in idle or low-speed responsiveness?

Personal Experience

If you’ve made the switch, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Any tips on tuning the engine after installing the cam would be great too.

Thanks in advance for any feedback or info you can share!

I’ve been running the Star Racing 3/4 cam for about 6 months now. I’ve definitely noticed an increase in horsepower. My bike feels alive, and the throttle response is much sharper. I’d say I’ve gained about 10-15 hp peak!

That’s awesome to hear, dsmith! Did you notice any changes in torque or low-end power? I’m curious how it feels on the street.

Yes, I’ve noticed around a 5-8 ft-lbs increase in torque. The bike pulls much harder out of turns now. It’s definitely a great mod if you rely on that low-end grunt!

Good to know, fkeith! How did you find the installation process? I’m a bit intimidated by the complexity of it.

Honestly, if you’re comfortable with basic mechanical work, it’s not too bad. Just take your time with adjustments, and watch some install videos for guidance. It’ll be worth it when you feel the difference!

I’ve been thinking about it, but how much does it really improve the overall bike responsiveness? Like, does it feel like a different bike altogether after installing?

Great question, abigail08! My experience was that it transformed my bike. The throttle feels much more connected to the wheels, and I can make quick changes in speed effortlessly!

I love that feeling! It’s like the bike becomes an extension of you. However, just make sure to balance it with proper tuning afterward!

After installing the cam, I took my bike for a ride and couldn’t stop grinning. The power delivery is so sweet! Anyone else feel like the bike is now a mini beast on wheels?

Haha, absolutely! It feels like unleashing a caged animal! Have you done any dyno testing to see the exact gains? I’m curious about the numbers.

I haven’t done a dyno test yet, but I can feel the difference in everyday riding! I’m considering it soon, just to see how much I’ve really gained.

I think the cam is an excellent investment. But, I’ve also heard mixed reviews about how it affects reliability mod-wise. Anyone experienced any issues post-installation?

Interesting point, sherry35. I’ve heard of some reliability concerns, too, but I’ve had a smooth ride so far without any hiccups. Maybe it depends on how well the bike is maintained overall?

I’m just here for the horsepower, not worried about the reliability unless something breaks! #LivingOnTheEdge

I recently installed the Star Racing 3/4 cam, and the process was a bit challenging. You’ll definitely need a good set of sockets and wrenches. It took me around five hours total, but I’m no expert. Some online videos really helped!

That’s awesome, Ryan! I’m planning to do the install this weekend. Any specific bolts or tools you recommend to have on hand?

Definitely have a torque wrench! I found a few bolts were hard to reach. Also, a buddy helped me, so consider getting someone to assist you.

Great advice! I might ask a friend to help too. How did your bike feel after the upgrade, though?

The performance boost is noticeable! It’s like a whole new bike. Just make sure to tune it afterwards; that really helps enhance the experience.
