Need Help with 1965 Mustang Motor Mounts!

I’m diving into a project on my 1965 Mustang and I’ve realized that I might need to replace or upgrade the motor mounts. I’ve heard that the original mounts can sometimes wear out, causing vibrations or alignment issues. Does anyone have recommendations for specific motor mounts that work well for performance without sacrificing comfort?

What I’m Looking For:

  • Compatibility: I want to ensure the mounts I choose are a perfect fit for my model year.
  • Performance: Are there any mounts that enhance performance, especially for handling during cornering?
  • Installation Tips: Any advice on DIY installation? I’m somewhat handy but would appreciate any pointers to make the process smoother.
  • Brands to Consider: Which brands are trusted in the Mustang community? I’ve seen a few on popular websites but I’d like some feedback on durability and quality.

Questions:

  • Have any of you experienced issues with your motor mounts?
  • What signs should I look for that indicate it’s time for replacement?
  • Any tips on maintaining them once they’re installed?

Thanks in advance for your help! It’s my dream to get my Mustang running as smoothly as possible and I definitely want to make informed decisions on these upgrades.

I’m currently looking for motor mounts for my 1965 Mustang as well. I’ve heard that polyurethane mounts offer better durability than rubber ones. Anyone have experience with that?

Absolutely! Polyurethane mounts are stiffer and provide better engine control. Just make sure they don’t transmit too much vibration into the cabin.

I’ve tried both types, and I prefer rubber for my street-driven 65. They give a smoother ride overall, which is something to consider if you’ll be cruising more than racing.

Does anyone have brand recommendations? I’ve been looking at Energy Suspension and Prothane. Any feedback on those?

I’ve used Energy Suspension on my '65 with great results! Solid choice for a performance setup.

I think it all comes down to what engine you’re using. What engine setup do you have in your Mustang? It can change the mount requirements.

I’m running a 302 in mine! Does that affect the choice? Should I be considering anything specific?

With a 302, you should definitely look at mounts that are specifically listed for that engine. Compatibility is key for proper fitment.

Exactly! I installed aftermarket mounts without checking compatibility, and it was a nightmare.

Ugh, that sounds stressful! What happened? Did you have to replace them right away?

Yes, I had to swap them out! Lesson learned: always double-check your parts list before ordering!

Haha, sounds like a classic Mustang dilemma! Glad you figured it out. Do you have any recommendations now?

I’d recommend sticking with brands like Scott Drake or Magnum if you’re looking for reliability and decent performance. They work well with most setups.

What about vibration dampening? Is that something to consider when choosing mounts?

Great point! If you want a comfortable ride, especially in a street car, you should consider mounts that absorb vibration well.

I guess I should go with rubber mounts for more comfort! Thanks for all the insights; this really helps!

Definitely a smart choice! Just remember to check the specs for compatibility. Good luck with your Mustang!

I recently did the motor mount installation on my '65 Mustang and it was a smooth experience! You will need basic hand tools like wrenches, a jack, and some good jack stands. Don’t forget to check the alignment afterwards!

Thanks for the tips! I’m also planning to use a floor jack to take the weight off the old mounts. Any issues I should watch out for?
