Seeking Help with Lift Kits for a 1997 Toyota 4Runner
I’ve been considering lifting my 1997 Toyota 4Runner and I’m not quite sure where to start. I want to enhance its off-road capabilities and also improve the overall look of the truck. From what I’ve read, there are several lift kits out there, but I’m overwhelmed by the choices.
What I’m Looking For
Recommendations on specific lift kits: If you’ve installed a lift kit on your 4Runner, which one did you choose and why? What were the features that stood out for you?
Installation advice: Will I need any special tools or professional help for the installation, or can I tackle it on my own? Any tips for making the process smoother?
Compatibility with other modifications: I’ve also been thinking about upgrading my tires and suspension. Will a lift kit affect what I can do with my tires or other components?
Brand reviews: Are there particular brands you trust for lift kits on a 4Runner?
Cost breakdown: What should I be prepared to budget for? Is there a substantial difference in price between the well-known brands and off-brands?
General Info
I’ve seen some kits range from 2 inches to 4 inches of lift. I’m considering something around 3 inches to strike a balance between ground clearance and stability.
If anyone has advice, experiences, or even resources that could help me make a more informed decision, I’d really appreciate it! Thanks in advance for your input!
I think it really depends on what you want to use the 4Runner for. Body lifts are cheaper but don’t improve off-road performance much. Just my two cents.
Comparing Skyjacker to Pro Comp, I’d say Skyjacker seems to have a better reputation for durability, but Pro Comp can be cheaper. Just make sure to check reviews!
I’ve installed a few lift kits on older 4Runners. The toughest part is definitely the alignment afterward; you’ll want to ensure everything is set up right. Safety should be your priority, so don’t skip it!
I think going DIY can be really fun, but make sure you have the right tools and know what you’re doing. Check your lifting method for compatibility with other mods, like tires and suspension.
I did a DIY lift kit on my 97 4Runner, and it was a blast! Just remember, you might need to upgrade brakes or sway bars later. Don’t let it get too crazy!
