I’m considering installing a lift kit on my Toyota Highlander and would love some advice from the community! I’ve been doing a bit of research, but there’s a lot of conflicting information out there. Here are some specifics I’m curious about:

Questions I Have:

  • Which Lift Kit?: What are the best lift kit options for the Highlander? Brands? Height increases?
  • Installation: Is it something that can be done at home with basic tools or do I need to take it to a mechanic?
  • Compatibility: Will a lift kit affect my current suspension setup or any of the other systems in the Highlander?
  • Performance: How much of a difference does a lift kit really make in off-road performance or even day-to-day driving?
  • Pricing: What’s a reasonable price range I should expect for a decent lift kit and installation?

Things to Consider:

  • I’m not looking to turn my Highlander into a full-on off-road vehicle, but I do enjoy exploring some rougher terrains occasionally.
  • I’m also hoping to maintain pretty decent ride quality. I don’t want to feel like I’m driving a truck all the time!

I’m thinking about a lift kit as well! I’ve been reading about body lifts and suspension lifts. Body lifts just raise the body and are usually cheaper, while suspension lifts give you better off-road capability. What are you looking for primarily?

I had a body lift on my old Highlander, and it worked great for city driving, but I felt it didn’t handle off-road well. Suspension lifts are definitely better for that!

Both options have their merits. Just keep in mind that suspension lifts can be pricier and might affect your ride quality. What’s your driving style like?

I wonder if you need a lift kit at all? My Highlander drives fine on stock suspension. May not be worth the expense if you’re not going fully off-road.

Good point, Carl! But if you want to improve aesthetics and perhaps fit larger tires, a body lift could be a fun upgrade even for pavement driving.

Just be careful with clearance and angles after a lift, especially with a body lift. It can affect how the vehicle handles during turns.

I recently installed a 2-inch lift kit and it made a huge difference! I’d recommend getting a kit that comes with all the necessary components. Shocks are important to consider as well.
