Need Help with My 1986 Yamaha Venture Royale Problems

Seeking Help on My 1986 Yamaha Venture Royale Issues

Hello everyone,

I recently acquired a 1986 Yamaha Venture Royale, and while I’m excited about it, I’ve hit a few bumps in the road. I’m hoping to tap into the collective wisdom and experience of this community to troubleshoot some challenges I’m facing.

Carburetion Problems

I’ve been experiencing some issues with the carburation. The bike tends to sputter at low RPMs, and I suspect the carburetors might need a thorough cleaning or adjustment. If anyone has tips on tuning or rebuilding the carbs, it would be greatly appreciated.

Ignition Troubles

Also, I’ve noticed that the ignition system seems to have intermittent problems. There are times I have to try starting it multiple times before it turns over. Potential causes could be anything from the spark plugs to the ignition coils. Has anyone dealt with similar ignition issues?

General Maintenance Recommendations

I’d love to hear any advice on general maintenance practices specific to this model. Whether it’s about routine checks, the best oils to use, or even common pitfalls to avoid, it would help a lot to hear what others have learned from their experiences.

Parts Availability

Lastly, I’m curious about parts availability for the Venture Royale. Are there any trusted sources or forums where I might find the parts I need? It seems like replacement parts for older bikes can sometimes vary in availability, so any guidance would be helpful.

Looking forward to your suggestions and insights!

Thanks in advance for your help!

I had a lot of trouble with rough idling on my 1986 Yamaha Venture Royale. It turned out to be the spark plugs. Replacing them made a huge difference!

That’s interesting, Christopher! I experienced poor acceleration. Have you checked your carburetor? A clean carb can work wonders.

Definitely check the carburetor. Sometimes they just need adjustments. I’ve also cleaned mine and it helped with the idling issues!

On my bike, overheating was a major issue. I found that my radiator was partially clogged. Flushing it solved the problem completely.

Wow! I didn’t think about the radiator. I’ll check mine as well. It gets really hot after a long ride.

If overheating is happening, look at your coolant levels too. I once ignored that, and it caused some serious problems later on.

Have you checked your fan? Sometimes, they’re not kicking on when they should. It’s an easy fix!

I don’t want to scare anyone, but I had my engine seize because of poor maintenance. Always keep an eye on your oil levels!

Yes, Brittany! Regular maintenance is key. An annual check-up can save you from tough situations. I learned the hard way too!

Anyone else notice strange noises while accelerating? I’m just curious if that could be related to the timing.

Funny you mention that! I sometimes hear clicking sounds. It’s almost like it’s talking back!

Strange noises might just be normal for these bikes. Just make sure it’s not a sign of something serious, like a loose valve.

At the end of the day, it’s all about how much you care for your bike. Give it some love, and it’ll love you back! Ride on!

I’m having a lot of trouble with my electrical system too. The battery keeps dying very quickly on my 1986 Venture Royale. Has anyone else experienced this?

I’ve faced similar issues! Check your wiring harness for any frayed or loose connections. It could be causing battery drain.

Wiring can definitely be a pain. I’ve had to rewire a few sections on mine. I recommend getting a multimeter to test for shorts.

Great tip! I’ve also noticed the ignition switch can get corroded. Cleaning it might help with starting issues.

I’ve cleaned my ignition switch a few times, and it does make a difference! Just use some contact cleaner and let it dry.

That’s true, but has anyone tried replacing the ignition system altogether? I’m considering it but it’s a bit pricey.
