Need Help with 5.7 Vortec Spider Injector Issues!

Introduction

I’m having some trouble with my 5.7 Vortec engine and the spider injector system, and I’m looking for some advice or help. Has anyone here dealt with these before?

Symptoms

Lately, I’ve been experiencing some performance issues that I suspect might be related to the fuel delivery system. I’ve noticed:

  • Rough idling
  • Decreased fuel efficiency
  • Some hesitation during acceleration

These symptoms started appearing gradually, and I think it might be related to the spider injector either clogging up or failing.

What I’ve Tried

So far, I’ve:

  1. Checked for any obvious leaks around the injectors.
  2. Replaced the fuel filter hoping that might solve the issues—but no luck.
  3. Tried a fuel system cleaner as well.

I’m at a point where I think a deeper inspection is necessary.

Questions

  1. Has anyone replaced the spider injector before? What is involved in the process?
  2. Are there specific performance upgrades for this injector setup?
  3. What is the best way to troubleshoot these kinds of issues?

Thanks in advance for any advice or tips you can share! I’d really appreciate your input as I navigate this. Let’s see if we can get this engine purring again!

I’ve been dealing with spider injector issues for a while. Common symptoms include rough idling and loss of power. Have you checked the fuel pressure?

That’s a good point. I had similar issues, and a fuel pressure test revealed a bad pump. Make sure to check the pressure regulator too!

If you’re getting a rich fuel mixture, it might be the fuel injector leaking. Have you noticed any smoke from the exhaust?

No smoke, but the CEL is on. Any ideas on potential codes I should look for?

Check for codes like P0300 for random misfires or P0171 for a lean condition. These can give clues about injector problems.

Great advice! I had a P0300 and replacing the spider injector resolved it. Best move ever!

What about intermittent issues? Sometimes mine runs fine, but other times it stumbles on acceleration. Very confusing!

I feel you, vancejeffrey. Spider injectors can be really finicky. Have you inspected the wiring harness? Corrosion can cause intermittent issues.

How involved is the replacement process for the spider injector? I dread getting into that!

It’s not too bad! Just take your time with the intake manifold removal. A few hours should do it if you have some basic tools.

Don’t forget the gaskets! Replacing them during injector swaps can save you from future headaches.

So true! I´d hate to have to tear it all apart again just for a leaky gasket!

For real, it’s like a game of ‘let’s not do the same job twice’! I swear, every time I touch something, it ends up leading to another problem.

I once spent an entire weekend on mine, only to find I had left a vacuum line disconnected. Lesson learned: double-check everything!

Haha, it’s always the little things! I can’t stress enough the importance of being meticulous.

Has anyone tried cleaning the injectors instead of replacement? Sometimes that can work wonders if they aren’t too far gone.

I had a similar issue with my 5.7 Vortec. I ended up replacing my spider injector with an OEM part, which worked well. Have you checked for any leaks around the injector?

That’s a good point! I haven’t checked for leaks yet, how do you recommend inspecting that area? Any tips would be great![/br>

I suggest checking your fuel lines and using a smoke test if possible. Additionally, upgrading to an aftermarket spider injector system could enhance your performance significantly. Brands like BBK and FAST are worth considering![/br>
