Michelin Defender LTX M/S vs M/S2 - Which One Is Worth It?

Introduction

I’ve been doing some research on the Michelin Defender LTX M/S and the M/S2 tires as I’m looking to upgrade my truck’s tires. There seems to be a lot of chatter on the forums about these two, but I wanted to gather more personal experiences and insights.

Performance Differences

Firstly, I’m curious about the performance differences between the two models:

  • Tread Design: I’ve read that the M/S2 has a new tread pattern compared to the original. How does it impact traction? Especially in wet conditions?
  • Durability: Has anyone had experience with the longevity of both tires? Are there significant differences in wear?
  • Noise Levels: The M/S2 reportedly features improvements in road noise. Is it really that noticeable?

Design Updates

I also want to know about any design updates that may have been included in the M/S2:

  • Weight and Load Capacity: Is there any change in how much weight these tires can carry? This is crucial for me as I often haul heavy loads.
  • Fuel Efficiency: I’ve heard that some tire updates can positively affect fuel economy — is the M/S2 any better here?

Recommendations

For those who have driven on both, which one would you recommend? Are there specific driving conditions or vehicle types where one tire might excel over the other?

Conclusion

Any detailed feedback or reviews would be really appreciated! I’m eager to hear your thoughts and experiences with these tires. Thanks in advance for your input!

I’ve had the Michelin Defender LTX M/S for a year now, and I can say the tread design provides a smooth ride. The LTX M/S has a more robust tread which handles all terrains excellently, especially in wet conditions.

I’ve recently switched to the Defender LTX M/S2, and I must say, the improvements in traction on snow are noticeable! I feel much safer driving in winter weather.

The main difference seems to be the updated tread pattern on the MS2 which enhances its performance in the rain. However, I’ve also heard that the M/S is more durable over rough roads.

That’s true, but I’ve noticed the MS2 has improved noise reduction. For long drives, that’s a game-changer!

Both tires are great, but I think it depends on your driving habits. If you frequently deal with snow, the MS2 might be worth the investment. Who doesn’t want better control?

That’s a good point. I mainly use my vehicle for highway driving, so I wonder if the LTX M/S would suit me better then.

I drive in mixed conditions, and I found the M/S to be just fine, but I might upgrade to the MS2 just for peace of mind in tricky weather. Anyone tested them off-road?

The MS2 shines off-road as well, the tread is designed for better grip on loose surfaces. You won’t regret the upgrade if that’s a consideration!

I keep hearing about the MS2’s wet traction. Is it really that much better than the M/S, or is it just marketing hype?

It’s noticeably better! Trust me, I had both and the MS2 grips like no other while raining. No more slipping for me!

While I love a good gripping tire, the M/S has been super reliable for me for years now. Kind of makes you wonder if the upgrades are always necessary!

True, but technology evolves, and so do our needs! The M/S has been great, but I think the MS2 is worth considering for future-proofing.

Overall, the tread on the MS2 is like a fancy haircut—providing that extra flair! But remember, it won’t fix a bad driver! :joy:

I’ve been using the Michelin Defender LTX M/S on my F150 for about 50,000 miles now. The tread wear is pretty impressive! I’ve driven on highways and rough terrain, and they still have great grip.

That’s awesome feedback! I’m curious, how does your tread wear compare to the M/S2 if you’ve tried both?

I switched from M/S to M/S2 and noticed a difference in wear rate. The M/S2 seemed to wear quicker around 40,000 miles with more aggressive driving. But the grip improved significantly.

Interesting point! That wear rate is certainly something to think about for long-term use.

I’ve had my Defender LTX M/S for over a year, and they still look brand new at 35,000 miles! Mostly highway driving, but the wear is minimal even off-road. Worth every penny!

Great to hear that! Are there any weather conditions that affected their performance?
