Looking for Tips on OBS Ford Headache Racks!

Seeking Advice on Headache Racks for OBS Ford Trucks

I’m currently in the process of customizing my late 80s Ford truck and I’m really interested in getting a headache rack to add some functionality and style. I’ve seen a few options out there, but I’m a bit overwhelmed by the choices.

Here’s what I’m looking for:

  • Recommendations: What are the best headache racks that fit well with OBS Ford models? Are there specific brands or models that people have had great experiences with?
  • Installation Help: For those who have installed one themselves, how difficult is the installation process? Any tips or tricks that could make it easier?
  • Dimensions and Fit: What should I be considering in terms of dimensions? I want to ensure that I get a headache rack that not only looks good but also fits perfectly with the truck’s bed.
  • Design Options: Are there specific features that add utility or aesthetic appeal? I’m open to custom options if anyone has done something unique.

I appreciate any advice or insight! Thanks!

Has anyone used the built-in bolt holes on the OBS Ford for their headache rack? They really make the installation easier and more secure.

I definitely recommend checking the alignment of those holes before you start drilling. It saves a lot of hassle later!

Make sure you have a good socket set and a torque wrench! You want to ensure everything is tightened properly for safety. Plus, a good level will help with alignment!

Absolutely! I used a torque wrench last time, and it made a huge difference. Can’t emphasize that enough.

What about using silicone sealant? I’ve heard it helps prevent leaks and rust under the headache rack. Anyone tried this?

I haven’t used silicone, but I’ve heard good things! It’s always better to be safe than sorry.

For really stable racks, consider adding some brackets to support the rack at the back. It gives you more stability, especially with heavier loads.

I guess it depends on how much weight you plan to carry. What should I expect when hauling heavier objects?

Stability is key! Make sure to distribute the weight evenly to avoid tipping.

Has anyone had issues with rust around the mounting points? I’ve seen that on a few trucks, and it worries me.

Yeah, rust is a pain. I suggest using anti-seize compound on the bolts when mounting. It’ll help a lot in the long run.

Good call! Keeping the bolts clean helps maintain a solid install.

Is there a specific headache rack brand you all prefer? I want something that’s durable but also easy to install.

I’ve had good luck with Pioneer racks—they’re sturdy and straightforward to put on.

I’m also on the hunt for a quality headache rack for my OBS Ford. I’ve heard great things about the Hank’s Racks. They seem durable and have positive user reviews. Has anyone else tried them?

I’ve had really good experiences with the Dee Zee racks too! They’re sturdy and look great on my truck.

What about installation? Is it easy to put these racks on yourself, or should you go to a professional? I’m leaning towards DIY to save some cash.

I did mine myself! As long as you have the right tools and a buddy, it’s totally doable. Just take your time!

Also, I wonder about the weight ratings. Has anyone had issues with racks not holding up under heavy loads? I’d hate to invest in something and have it fail.
