Looking for Thoughts on Harley Side Dump Exhausts

Introduction

Hey fellow riders! I’m considering upgrading my Harley with a side dump exhaust and wanted to get some feedback on the options out there. I’ve heard a lot about how aftermarket exhausts can really enhance the performance and sound of our bikes, but I’m looking for specific experiences and recommendations.

Why Side Dump Exhaust?

I’ve been particularly eyeing the side dump styles because I love the aggressive look and the unique sound they produce. It seems like a side dump exhaust can also give a nice performance boost, especially while cruising or accelerating.

What to Consider?

  1. Performance: How much of a difference have you noticed in terms of power and torque?
  2. Sound: What types of music do these exhausts create? I prefer a deep rumble over a high-pitched whine.
  3. Installation: Was it straightforward to install, or did it require some special tools and know-how?
  4. Durability: How have they held up over time?

Recommendations Needed

I’m particularly interested in brands that provide great bang for your buck. If you’ve had any experience with brands like Vance & Hines, Bassani, or something else, please share! Also, are there any models that are better suited for certain Harley models?

Closing Thoughts

I really appreciate any insights you can share! I want to make an informed decision before pulling the trigger. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and any suggestions you have!

I’ve been running a side dump exhaust on my Harley for about six months now. I’ve definitely noticed a horsepower gain. The sound is fantastic too!

That’s awesome! Did you experience any noticeable torque improvements as well?

I second that! The installation definitely gives a more aggressive feel when riding. But have you guys noticed any heat issues?

So far, I haven’t had any heat issues, but I did insulate my pipes. Might be worth considering!

I’ve always found that side dumps can impact the riding experience positively. The throttle response feels snappier!

I’m curious—are side dump exhausts louder than traditional setups? I don’t want to annoy my neighbors too much!

They can be quite loud! But I personally love the sound—just keep a low throttle in neighborhoods.

I think it really depends on the brand of side dump you choose. Some can be quieter than others, so definitely research!

Good point! I’d recommend looking into Sound tests from riders before buying.

I wouldn’t mind installing one just for the aesthetic appeal! Plus, who doesn’t want a little more grabbing power on the roads?

If you’re considering it mainly for looks, just be prepared for a performance investment too. It’s an all-around upgrade!

Exactly! The performance boost can be really rewarding, especially for long rides.

I love the way my side dump looks. It just screams power! Anyone else notice how it affects their bike’s stance?

Absolutely! It gives a more robust look, but does it change handling at all?

Not really for me! The side weight balance seems fine, but I do prefer the straight pipes for a sportier feel.

That’s interesting! Some say side dumps are better for torque, though. Have you done a back-to-back test?

I can see both sides. It really comes down to personal preference, but I do think side dumps are worth the shot!

I’ve tried several Harley side dump exhausts, and the Vance & Hines options offer a perfect blend of deep bass and a nice volume increase. You really feel it when you hit the throttle!

That’s great to hear! I’ve been eyeing the Bassani systems. How do they compare in terms of volume level?
