Looking for Advice on Roll Bar Options for My Miata ND!

I’m in the market for a roll bar for my 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata ND and would love to get some advice from fellow enthusiasts. I’ve been reading about the safety benefits of installing a roll bar, especially for the occasional track day and spirited drives. However, I have a few questions:

Types of Roll Bars

  1. Style: I’ve seen different styles, like the OEM-style or more aggressive competition-style bars. What do you all think is the best choice for a street-driven Miata?
  2. Brands: Any recommendations on brands that are known for quality and safety? I’ve heard good things about Hard Dog and Cusco but would like opinions.
  3. Installation: Is it a DIY-type of project or should I consider having it professionally installed? Any tips for the installation process?

Safety vs. Aesthetics

I want something that looks good but, more importantly, keeps me safe. Does anyone have experiences with how the roll bars impact visibility or interior space?

Regulations

Lastly, I’m curious about any regulations I should be aware of if I plan to take my Miata to track days. Are there specific certifications or guidelines for roll bars in motorsports?

I appreciate any advice you can share! Thanks in advance!

Hi there! I recently installed a roll bar on my ND Miata, and I opted for a bolt-in option. It was easy to install and looks great too! Definitely adds a layer of safety for track days.

That’s awesome! Did you choose a specific brand? I’d love to know more about the aesthetics and fitment.

There are a few types of roll bars you can consider: fixed, bolt-in, and even removable ones. Each has its pros and cons, especially concerning safety and installation complexity.

I’m leaning towards a removable roll bar! It seems like a good option for daily driving. Do they really hold up as well as fixed ones?

I’ve read that removable options are not as sturdy during a crash as fixed ones. So, if safety is your priority, I’d suggest going with a fixed roll bar.

Safety should definitely come first! Plus, a fixed roll bar gives your Miata a more aggressive look on the track. Just make sure it fits your interior well.

Striking a balance between safety and aesthetics can be tough. What brands do you all recommend?

I really like the Hard Dog roll bars. They provide great protection and have different styles to suit your Miata’s design beautifully.

Hard Dog is good! I’ve considered them but wonder about installation. Is it a DIY project, or do you recommend professional help?

Most roll bars can be installed at home if you have basic tools. Just read the instructions carefully. But, if you’re unsure, getting professional help is always a good idea!

What about aesthetics? I want a roll bar that complements my interior without compromising headroom. Are there options that are sleek and low profile?

Absolutely! Some brands offer low-profile designs that fit nicely without taking up too much space. You can have safety and style!

If you’re looking for roll bar options for your Miata ND, I highly recommend the Hard Dog M2. It’s lightweight and offers great protection. Just make sure you have a torque wrench for proper installation!

Great suggestion! I installed the Hard Dog too and found it really straightforward. Just allocate a solid afternoon for the job!

I went with the Beatrush bar, and while it’s a good fit, it was tricky to get the angles right during installation. Definitely have a buddy help you hold it in place!

Sounds like a fun challenge! I’m considering that one too. What tools did you find essential for the installation?

Definitely a socket set and a good Torx bit for those tricky screws! Just take your time aligning everything properly, and use some thread locker for added safety.

What about potential challenges? Are there any common pitfalls to avoid during installation?

I found that the biggest pain was getting the rear trim pieces back on after installing my roll bar. Make sure to take those off carefully, so you can get them back on easily later!
