Anyone with 37 Tires on 18 Rims? Share Your Experience!

I’m reaching out to the community to gather insights and experiences regarding fitting 37-inch tires on 18-inch rims on various vehicles, especially off-road trucks and SUVs. I’ve been considering this combination for my Jeep Gladiator, and I’m curious about a few specific areas:

Compatibility

  • Vehicle Models: Are there any specific models (like the Ford Powerstroke or RAM TRX) where this tire-rim combo works better?
  • Fitment Issues: Have any of you faced challenges with clearance, rubbing, or modifications after installation?

Installation Thoughts

  • DIY or Pro Install?: Do you think it’s feasible to install these tires myself, or would I be better off letting a professional handle it? What tools would I need if I decide to go the DIY route?

Performance and Handling

  • Driveability: How does changing to 37s impact your vehicle’s handling, acceleration, and fuel consumption?
  • Recommendations: Any specific brands or models of tires that perform well in this size?

Aesthetic Appeal

  • Looks: I’m also interested in how this setup looks overall. If anyone has photos or could describe how it changes the vehicle’s stance or appearance, that would be awesome.

Issues to Anticipate

  • Potential Problems: What downsides should I be aware of? Any wear-and-tear issues that arise from using this tire and rim setup?

If anyone has experience or insight to share, it would really help me in making my decision. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

I’ve run 37-inch tires on 18-inch rims for about a year now. They fit well, but I had to raise my suspension and trim some fender flares. Definitely worth it for the off-road performance!

That’s great to hear, xpeterson! How much did you raise your suspension? I’m considering similar mods for my Jeep.

I wouldn’t recommend going too big on 18-inch rims with 37-inch tires unless you’re ready for a lot of modifications. A solid axle swap might help if you’re dealing with a heavier vehicle.

I agree with you, caleb75. My buddy has had some alignment issues since he got his new set-up. It’s important to check your gear ratios too.

Wow, I never thought about modifying the gears! Do you think these tires are okay for highway driving, or are they strictly off-road?

I’ve driven mine on highways without any major issues. Just be cautious about hydroplaning!

Good to know, matthew07! Do you guys notice any change in fuel efficiency with those larger tires?

Yes, fuel efficiency takes a hit—about 3-4 mpg for me. But the traction and look are worth it!

That totally makes it worth it! I was worried it would look too bulky on an SUV.

If you have a truck, I’d say go for it! The larger tire really improves stability. Just make sure you watch out for rubbing while turning!

This topic is so helpful! I’m prepping my Ram for some mods, but I’m worried about the potential issues. Any tips on what to watch out for?

Check the weight rating of your rims! A wrong match can lead to serious issues down the line.

Hah, I went for the bling but didn’t check the weight rating! Hope I don’t regret it later! Thanks for the heads-up, blee!

Don’t worry! You can always swap those later if you need to. It’s about finding the right balance.

Reflecting on all these comments, I’m excited to upgrade! Gotta make sure I don’t cut corners on quality though!

I’ve had 37-inch tires on 18-inch rims for about a year now. Performance has definitely improved, especially off-road. But I did notice a slight dip in fuel efficiency.

Interesting! How much did your fuel efficiency drop? I’m curious if it’s significant.

I’ve read that 37s can really impact handling. Curious to hear if others have experienced that too.

I totally agree! My handling felt heavier, especially during sharp turns. It’s manageable, but you notice the difference.
