Anyone tried a SAI delete on a 1.8T? Need help!

[quote=“richard37, post:5, topic:7078”]It’s crucial to reset your ECU…/quote] Great point! Did you use any specific tools for resetting your ECU? I want to do it right!

I just used a simple OBDII scanner. You can find them online for about $20. Don’t forget to check for updates on your tune afterwards too!

Anyone had issues with the check engine light coming on post-SAI delete? I could use some advice on why this happens.

[quote=“singletondouglas, post:8, topic:7078”]Anyone had issues with the check engine light…/quote] Yes, I had that problem! It was the secondary air injection system code. Deleting it and clearing the code resolved it for me.

I love the idea of removing the SAI system. It cleans up the engine bay! But I agree, you must resolve any error codes to really enjoy it.

Great point, Joseph! I mean, who doesn’t love a clean engine bay? But seriously, just keeping everything well-tuned seems to be the best way forward.

It’s worth noting that removing the SAI isn’t for everyone. Depending on your region, it may have emissions implications, so check local regulations!

You all are scaring me a little. I just wanted to get more power! But I guess there are lots of potential pitfalls.

I’ve done a SAI delete on my 1.8T, and the performance boost is noticeable! You get better throttle response, which is awesome for tuning. Just keep in mind the emissions may be affected.

That’s interesting! Can you share what kind of performance gains you noticed? Did it feel different during everyday driving?

While performance can improve, just know that removing emissions components can have legal implications, especially during inspections. Check your local laws first!

Good point! I didn’t even think about legality. Anyone know if there are specific states where this is a bigger concern?

I live in California, and trust me, they are strict about emissions. A SAI delete could definitely lead to a failed smog test here. Just a heads up!

On the plus side, you might notice slightly better fuel efficiency after the delete. However, don’t expect a miracle. It’s more about throttle response than overwhelming power gains.

Has anyone tried a tune after doing the delete? I’m curious if there are better gains with both. I love tweaking my car for more power!

I tuned my engine after the delete, and it felt like a whole new car! Highly recommend it if you’re planning on keeping it for a while.

Just be cautious with tuning and the SAI delete. Make sure your ECU is properly configured to avoid running lean or other issues. Talk to a pro if you’re unsure!

I’ve seen people joking about SAI deletes like it’s a fun fad. But seriously, it can turn your car into a ticking emissions time bomb! So tread carefully.

Haha, true! It might seem trendy, but I would rather not face hefty fines! There has to be a balance between performance and legality.

I’d love to see a side-by-side comparison of pre and post delete in terms of metrics. If anyone has dyno results, that would be super helpful!
