I’m considering adding a roof rack to my Chevy Cruze for some upcoming trips where I’ll need extra cargo space. I’ve seen a few options online, but I’m unsure about a couple of things:
Roof Rack Models
What brands do you recommend? I’ve heard good things about Thule and Yakima, but are there any budget-friendly options that still offer good quality?
Are there specific models that fit better on the Cruze? I don’t want to end up with something that looks out of place or doesn’t fit right.
Installation Advice
How hard is it to install a roof rack? I’m not particularly handy, so I’m wondering if I should attempt it myself or pay someone to install it for me.
Any tips for installation? Like, are there any tools I need to have on hand, or common mistakes to avoid?
Usage Considerations
What should I keep in mind when using a roof rack? I’ve read that they can affect gas mileage. Anyone notice a big difference?
Is it safe for long road trips? I plan to carry some bikes and possibly luggage, and I want to make sure it’s secure.
Any input from fellow Cruze owners or those experienced with roof racks would be super helpful! Looking for insights, tips, and maybe even pictures if you have them. Thanks!
I recently added a roof rack to my Chevy Cruze and went with the Thule AeroBlade. It’s sleek and very quiet on the highway! Installation was pretty straightforward; just required basic tools. Paid around $450 for the complete set-up.
That’s awesome, howardlevi! I’ve been looking at the Yakima JetStream. It seems a bit more budget-friendly at around $350, but I worry about wind noise. Any thoughts?
PMiller, I have the Yakima JetStream, and honestly, the noise isn’t bad at all! The installation was simple for me, just followed the instructions, and it took about an hour. Really sturdy too!
I took a chance on a cheaper brand from Amazon, and surprisingly it works great! Less than $200 for both the racks and crossbars. Just don’t overload it!
I’ve just installed a roof rack on my Cruze! The key is sticking to the weight limit—generally around 150 lbs. Make sure to distribute the load evenly to avoid damaging your car’s roof.
