The Continental SureContact RX is a premium ultra-high performance tire that offers longer wear and a quieter ride. It is a sporty tire that inherited some of the attributes of a touring tire. In this review, we took the Continental SureContact RX tires for an extended spin. This gave us the necessary driving time to find out if the SureContact RX is better than other performance tires with a higher price tag.

Our test vehicle for this Continental SureContact RX review is a 2015 Audi A4 equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four cylinder engine, eight speed automatic transmission, and Quattro all-wheel drive. Our test vehicle came fitted with stock 18-inch wheels and a set of Continental SureContact RX tires. The owner of the Audi told us his old Goodyear tires were great for all-season driving, but the tires had a tendency to emit a lot of tire noise as the tread wears out. The tire dealer recommended the Continental SureContact RX tires and he never looked back. In fact, this is the second set of SureContact RX tires on his Audi.

Continental SureContact RX review: Features

The Continental SureContact RX is constructed utilizing SportPlus RX Technology to offer advanced levels of traction on slippery and snowy roads while enhancing grip on dry and wet surfaces. The tire is also engineered to offer a more direct and precise steering feel for better handling and stability in high speed driving.

The unique thing about the Continental SureContact RX is not the built-in QuickView Indicator that allows you to verify the alignment of the wheels, but it’s the traction teeth in the pattern grooves. This design will increase the biting edges of the tire to provide additional sipes to improve braking, acceleration, and cornering on any type of road including snow and ice.

The great thing about the Continental SureContact RX is the high-strength 2-ply sidewall construction. This will not only increase the comfort and refinement levels of the tire, but it also absorbs the impact if you drive directly through a pothole. We were able to witness this firsthand as we drove our test vehicle in the city.

Continental SureContact RX review: Test Drive

Our Audi test vehicle is in excellent shape. We hopped in and drove like demons. The car had a smooth and controlled ride and handling was also excellent thanks to the Quattro all-wheel drivetrain. However, like most Audi cars, our A4 has a tendency to understeer if you attach a corner at higher than average speed. Other than that, we have no complaints. This car is superior to other Japanese compacts and it remained stable even as we approached silly speeds on the highway.

Dry Traction

I have nothing bad to say about the Falken Ziex ZE950 when it comes to dry performance. The tires gave me the confidence to speed ahead and execute quick maneuvers without worrying about the tires losing traction. I felt tremendous amounts of grip was ever present I cornered the X3 like I was in a Subaru WRX. Braking also felt good since I was able to stop the X3 abruptly without feeling the tires slide on the harsh concrete.

Wet Traction

It’s the same story on wet roads. The tires remained calm and composed even as we threw the vehicle to a tight corner in the wet. We would have second thoughts if we were rolling on an ordinary set of all-season tires, but the Continental SureContact RX are far from ordinary. Braking power remained strong and consistent even over slippery tarmac. High-speed stability over wet roads was also top notch and confidence-inspiring to say the least.

Snow Traction

The standard Quattro all-wheel drive system in our test vehicle allowed us to drive a bit more aggressively over snow covered roads. The Continental SureContact RX tires were able to forge over snow and ice without losing traction. We even traversed over moderately deep snow and the tires obliged gracefully. But if you want to drive over severe winter conditions, you better upgrade to a better set of winter tires.

Comfort

I was particularly impressed with the long-distance riding comfort of the Continental SureContact RX tires. The 2-ply sidewall construction worked wonders as the tires absorbed small bumps and road irregularities while still maintaining traction. The tires were also magnificent in the city. Potholes and humps can be attacked with reckless abandon as long as you’re traveling at an appropriate speed.

Noise

The Continental SureContact RX were pleasantly quiet despite the high-performance aspirations. Other performance tires will give you better grip in exchange for mediocre tire wear and more road noise, but the SureContact RX begs to differ. Mind you, there are other tires that can offer a more silent ride than the SureContact RX, but few can offer this without compromising all-weather traction and handling.

Treadwear

The owner of our test vehicle replaced his last set of Continental SureContact RX tires after 65,000 miles. This is not bad given the relatively affordable price of the tires. The SureContact RX is a tad more expensive than comparable Goodyear or Toyo tires, but it will certainly give Michelin tires a serious run for the money. The QuickView Indicator on the tires will tell you if the vehicle needs an alignment and will help prolong the life of the rubber. I’m a firm believer that all tires are capable of lasting a longer time provided that all steering and suspension components are checked prior to installing a new set of rubber.

Conclusion

Searching for a high-performance tire that delivers all-weather traction and a comfy ride? The Continental SureContact RX is worthy of consideration. It offers advanced levels of grip on dry, wet, and snowy roads and remains quiet and composed even as the road turns harsh.

We’ve been hearing a lot of good things about the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 prior to this review. It is easy to understand why I was particularly excited to test the tires on real roads. The Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 is what I call a hybrid tire. The D, W, and S connotation means Dry, Wet, and Snow. Yes, this is an ultra-high performance tire that is also designed to perform admirably over snowy roads, which is frankly unbelievable.
Gone are the days when tires are just mere pieces of radial rubber. The Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 is proof that it is possible to merge excellent all-season performance in a sporty and comfortable package. Fortunately in this review, we have the right car for the job.

The car I’m talking about is a 2015 Lexus IS 350. Yes, this car is no better than the BMW 3-Series, but it manages to offer the right amount of sportiness and luxury in a compact package. Our test vehicle came with stock 17-inch wheels and relatively new Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 tires. The owner of the vehicle is a good friend of mine who is planning to sell the car. It was in pretty good shape and the interior is still practically brand new. The owner also told me the current Continental tires are simply the best ever fitted to his Lexus. He handed over the keys, shook hands, and told him I will try to find a prospective buyer during my test drive. I also promised to fill up the tank with gas since I felt I was going to drive this Lexus a bit more aggressively than the usual test drive.

Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 review: Features

The Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 is an ultra-high performance all-season tire for sports coupes, sports cars, performance sedans, and sporty trucks. This is the tire to buy if you demand year-round driving performance even on slushy or icy terrain.

The tire is manufactured utilizing an advanced silica-enhanced all-season tread compound. Continental’s Sport Plus Technology and +Silane additives are also utilized to deliver advanced levels of traction on wet and snowy roads along with great treadlife. With an asymmetrical tread design equipped with chamfered edges and traction grooves to provide outstanding grip on dry roads and enhanced traction over snow.

The ExtremeContact DWS06 also comes with innovative QuickView Indicators to prevent irregular wear. Simply put, the tire will tell you if uneven wear is detected due to suspension or alignment problems. The tire also comes with Tuned Performance Indicators which consist of visible letters molded into the second rib from the outboard shoulder. A visible DWS indicator means the tire is ready for any type of terrain, whether on dry tarmac, wet concrete, or ice-covered roads. When the S indicator wears out, it means the tire only has appropriate tread depth to tackle dry or wet roads. If the W and S indicators have worn away, the tire is trying to tell you that it is only good for dry roads only.

Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 review: Test Drive

I only got the chance to test the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 over dry and wet roads. However, the owner gave me a handful of stories about the performance of the tires over deep or moderate snow. Like I said, the car looked brand new, and it drove like a new car, too. The standard eight-speed automatic reacted like a dual-clutch tranny as I stepped hard on the gas, while the standard rear-wheel drivetrain gave the car a more sporting and linear feel over curves.

Dry Traction

The Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 felt magnificent over dry tarmac. In fact, it gave the Lexus a more sporting feel. If you know anything about cars, then you are probably aware of the sanitized nature of Lexus vehicles. But with the ExtremeContact DWS06 tires, my test vehicle felt like it was riding on slicks as I sped on the highway. The steering felt communicative too, which is in contrast to the rather dull nature of the tiller when fitted with the stock tires.

Wet Traction

The ExtremeContact DWS06 also felt magical over wet roads. I didn’t notice the tires slipping or skidding even as I was purposely trying to coerce the rear wheels to break traction. Mind you, I was doing this on an empty stretch of winding backroads. It’s suffice to say this tire is one of the best tires I have ever tested on the wet.

Snow Traction

Like I said, I didn’t get the chance to drive over snowy roads. But the owner of my test vehicle specifically told me the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 tires were the best he ever tried. He also told me the tires were good enough even over moderately deep snow. He even took the Lexus to Canada to attend a wedding and he encountered no problems as he drove or slick and icy terrain.

Comfort

I know for a fact the Lexus IS 350 is a comfortable cruiser. The ExtremeContact DWS06 tires managed to further enhance the touring comfort of my test vehicle. I know this is hard to believe, but it really felt like I was riding on higher profile tires as I drove over pockmarked city roads.

Noise

Noise levels were extremely low even as I drove over harsh concrete roads. Credit is due to the magnificent refinement of the Lexus, but the tires were able to tone down the low-pitched roar of ordinary tires in high speed driving.

Treadwear

The tires fitted to my test vehicle were still fresh even though they were more than 3 months old. However, I noticed the S indicator slowly fading into obscurity. Perhaps this is the low point of the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06. Other reviewers were also critical of the tread life of the tires.

Conclusion

I had fun in this review of the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06. This is definitely one of the best options if you demand a tire to perform admirably in all weather conditions including snow or ice.

It is difficult to choose a tire if you live in areas with annual heavy rains and snow. With that being said, it can get a bit costly to buy two sets of tires for all-season and winter driving conditions. But the Continental ExtremeContact DWS tire is different.

In this review, we got the chance to test these tires in real world conditions. We wanted to find out if all the hype surrounding the Continental ExtremeContact DWS is true. If you’re not that much into cars (or tires for that matter), here’s what you need to know: the Continental ExtremeContact DWS is one of the top ultra-high performance tires engineered for true year-round and all-season driving.

For this review of the Continental ExtremeContact DWS, we got the chance to test drive a 2017 Mazda CX-5 Touring fitted with Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires on stock 17-inch wheels. I’m not biased when it comes to cars, but the SKYACTIV Mazda CX-5 is one of the best crossover SUVs in my book. The Continental ExtremeContact DWS is a sterling choice for sporty sedans, sports cars, sporting coupes, and even sporty trucks or crossovers. The DWS nomenclature simply means Dry, Wet, and Snow, which speaks highly about the capabilities of the tire. It is primarily engineered to satisfy the demands of year-round and all-season driving with highly capable snow or winter performance.

The tire is constructed using twin internal belts that are further reinforced with spirally wound jointless cap plies. This technique reduces the overall weight of the tire and ensures long-term integrity in sustained high-speed driving. The rubber is a blend of advanced silica, high grip, and all-season tread compound to produce a tire that performs extremely well in dry, wet, and snow.

The Continental ExtremeContact DWS features an attractive and sporty asymmetrical tread design equipped with stable shoulder blocks and a continued notched intermediate rib to enhance stability, cornering, and steering feel on wet or dry roads. Independent blocks on the center tread are equipped with high-angle crisscross grooves to provide more biting edges as the tire rolls over slippery or snowy terrain.

They are basically visible letters molded in the second rib from the outer shoulder that provides visual warnings on the condition of the tire. The DWS marking means the tire has sufficient tread depth to perform admirably on dry, wet, and snow. When the S marking fades away, the tire is only good for dry and wet. Stay on dry roads if you notice only the D marking on the tire.

Continental ExtremeContact DWS review: Test Drive

Our test vehicle was originally purchased in sunny California. The owner had to relocate to Minnesota for career-related issues, hence the abrupt need to change the tires. He told me the Continental ExtremeContact DWS gave his Mazda crossover the ability to survive the harsh Minnesota winter. That is high praise given the ExtremeContact DWS can also outrank other performance-biased tires in dry and wet roads.

Dry Traction

I have nothing but high praises for the Continental ExtremeContact DWS on dry tarmac. Traction was excellent and the grip was immense as I tossed the Mazda CX-5 hard towards a winding left-hand bend. Man, this SUV can really scoot like a Mazda3! Although body roll is still evident if you really push it, the tires never gave up on me even if the surface is peppered with fine sand and bits of loose dirt. Braking is also excellent as I was able to haul the CX-5 to a complete stop without peeing in my pants.

Wet Traction

The Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires were unperturbed by water puddles and heavy rain. Dare I say the tires felt better in the wet than on dry land? Maybe it’s just me, or maybe because the tires were really that good. Braking in the wet was also drama-free provided the tires are cooled down by the heavy downpour.

Snow Traction

I only tested the tires over moderately icy roads and I was able to travel at a moderate pace without skidding or losing traction. Braking was also admirable but not as strong as in the wet. You need to react faster and brake earlier if you want to avoid a collision. Overall, I am impressed on how the tires felt ‘normal’ when driven over snow.

Comfort

The Mazda CX-5 is one of those stiff-riding crossovers that offers the right balance between handling and ride comfort. Yes, it’s not floaty like a Lexus but it doesn’t wallow over bumps, either. The Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires gave my test vehicle a smooth and consistent ride quality even over rough patches of concrete roads. Mind you, it’s not as comfy as a set of touring tires, but it still gave my test vehicle a refined feel.

Noise

The Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires rolled silently over harsh city roads and was eerily quiet on the highway as well. Only at silly speeds will you notice some tire roar, but it wasn’t as harsh as other tires. If you drive sedately, the tires can deliver a noise-free driving environment.

Treadwear

The Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires in my test vehicle were driven for 4,000 miles before the S marking on the wear indicator began to fade. However, I think it’s an anomaly since my test vehicle is mostly driven in the city.

Conclusion

This review of the Continental ExtremeContact DWS gave me a new perspective on the capabilities of a true all-season tire. It is safe to say it is one of the best choices if you need a high-performance sporty tire that won’t give up at the first sign of snow.

This 2018 Continental ExtremeContact DW review came by accident. My friend spent two weeks searching for a used luxury car after selling his old truck. It runs out his cousin from across the border was keen on selling his 2016 BMW 5-series. But there’s a catch: it’s a diesel.
To be specific, it was a 2016 BMW 535d with the magnificent 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six diesel mill connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The car was fitted with stock 18-inch wheels and Continental all-season tires that badly needs replacement. My friend asked me about the BMW diesel and I told him not to worry about the paltry 255 horsepower output of the diesel. What he should focus on is the 413 pound-feet of torque at only 1,500 rpm. I told him this is enough to rival the torque output of a petrol V8.

After negotiating the price, we drove over across the border to give the car a visit. True to form, it was pristine and well-maintained except for the balding Continental tires. We took the car for a short test drive and proceeded to buy a set of summer tires. The tire shop recommended the Continental ExtremeContact DW tires. After about an hour or so, we drove back home.

After inspecting every crucial aspect of the car, we changed the oil and planned a long test drive. Like I said, it was also an opportunity to put the Continental ExtremeContact DW tires through its paces.

Continental ExtremeContact DW Review: Features

Unlike other summer tires, the Continental ExtremeContact DW was developed to provide brilliant summer performance without penalizing wear and ride comfort. The tire features an asymmetric tread design with a continuous and outboard notched intermediate rib and chamfered tread blocks. This design is optimized to enhance handling, stability, responsiveness, and steering feel. It also comes with continuous center ribs to maintain consistent contact with the road. It even comes with a high void-to-tread ratio and open lateral grooves to prevent hydroplaning on wet roads.

The Continental ExtremeContact DW also comes with unique Tuned Performance Indicators. You will notice the letters D and W molded into the second rib from the outboard shoulder. This will show you the performance level of the tire. If you see the D and W markings it seems the tire has enough tread depth to perform well on dry and wet roads. If the W marking fades away, the tire should only be used on dry conditions.

Continental ExtremeContact DW Review: Test Drive

If you have never driven a diesel-powered sedan, you are missing a lot. The rush of torque is simply mind-boggling as our test vehicle accelerated like a tuned sports car. The increasingly warm weather and the relentless rush of torque from our diesel Bimmer was the perfect match to our brand new set of Continental ExtremeContact DW rubber.

Dry Traction

The truth of the matter is the BMW 5-Series is not exactly the car to buy if you desire pinpoint handling, especially with a large and heavy diesel lump in the front. But performance in the dry is admirable since the car can be tossed all day with nary a complaint from the ExtremeContact DW tires. Braking was strong and consistent as the tires never skipped a beat even when pushed hard.

Wet Traction

Driving over wet roads was not a major concern for the Continental ExtremeContact DW tires. Traction and grip remained consistent over wet highways and braking was pretty decent given the dreary road conditions. You’ll have to be a fool to coax the tires to lose traction in the wet unless you apply abrupt steering and throttle inputs. But driven normally, the tires felt stable and reassuring in the wet. This is high praise for a summer tire.

Snow Traction

The Continental ExtremeContact DW tires are not designed to be used over snowy or icy roads. We will not include this criteria in our scoring system.

Comfort

The BMW 5-Series excels in terms of highway comfort. It doesn’t float or wallow like a Cadillac but the taut ride filters out any form of harshness to create a luxurious driving atmosphere. The Continental ExtremeContact DW tires were presumably better than the stock run-flats as it allowed the suspension to settle down on smooth highways. The tires also remained comfortable even when assaulted by jarring potholes.

Noise

Perhaps more impressive for a summer tire is the low levels of tire roar. Traditional summer tires were extremely sticky when properly warmed up, but road noise and comfort takes a back seat over handling and responsiveness. However, the Continental ExtremeContact DW is different. It sticks like glue over dry roads but it remained hushed even when pushed to higher speeds. You will only hear a slight intrusion of tire roar as the speedometer approaches triple digits.

Treadwear

The Continental ExtremeContact DW tires fitted to our test vehicle were as fresh as a daisy. We were not expecting longer wear compared to proper set of touring tires but the guys at the tire center informed us of the Continental Total Confidence Plan which includes flat tire road assistance, 12-months limited warranty, and 90,000-mile tread wearout coverage. Not a bad deal considering each tire only costs around $170 each.

Conclusion

It is safe to say the Continental ExtremeContact DW tires were the perfect set of summer tires for my friend’s BMW 535d. It offered tons of traction and grip on both dry and wet roads but remained comfortable and quiet enough on the drive home. These are not the cheapest summer tires you can buy, but you get what you pay for in terms of brilliant wet and dry performance.

In the family of ultra-high performance P Zero tires, the Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus is considered the tamest of them all. This tire is designed to meet the demands of sports cars, coupes, and sedans and is particularly crafted for all season performance, even on light snow.

I said the P Zero All Season Plus is tame since it comes with a conservative and plain-Jane asymmetric tread design. However, don’t be fooled by the looks because the enhanced silica and polymer compound is formulated to offer exceptional wet and dry performance along with excellent handling and braking.

In this review of the Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus, I searched long and hard to find a sporty European or Italian test car so I can test the capabilities of the tire.

All I managed to find was a 2014 Acura RLX sedan fitted with large 19-inch wheels and P Zero All Season Plus tires, which was more than enough for this review.

The car was equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine with variable cylinder management and direct injection. The engine churns out 310 horsepower to the front wheels courtesy of the six-speed automatic transmission.

I have to admit I’m not a big fan of Acura vehicles, but I was excited to put the Acura RLX sedan through its paces to test the handling, braking, and comfort levels of the Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus tires.

The owner of my test vehicle bought the tires about six months ago and was able to drive his car on a variety of road conditions including winter driving on light snow.

He told me that he loves the Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus since the tires were able to deliver luxury-car levels of comfort without compromising wet and dry handling.

Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus Review: Features

The Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus is equipped with four circumferential grooves to quickly disperse water and improve handling and grip on wet roads.

The enhanced silica and polymer tread compound were specifically formulated to deliver excellent all season traction and grip with lower wear characteristics.

The tire is also equipped with variable-sized tread elements to minimize road noise at low and high speeds.

The inner blocks are equipped with winter siping technology to provide adequate grip on snow-covered roads.

The lateral siping on the outside shoulder block is designed to maximize dry grip and cornering performance to improve the overall handling and stability of your ride.

Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus Review: Test Drive

The Acura RLX is not what you would call an all-out luxury sedan even though it is equipped with a spacious and comfortable cabin. It is a luxurious sports sedan with sharp handling and a rev-happy V6 motor.

However, the car had unusually large yet uncomfortable seats and the steering felt a bit disconnected to be properly classified as a sports saloon.

The standard 19-inch wheels also gave the car a firmer and harsher ride.

Will the Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus improve the handling and ride of my test vehicle? Let’s find out.

Dry Traction

Despite the minor drawbacks with the steering and the ride, the Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus felt excellent on dry pavement.

Acceleration and braking were pretty strong given the size and bulk of my test vehicle.

I was able to navigate over fast and winding corners without upsetting the overall balance and composure of the Acura RLX.

However, the numb and disconcerting steering will require a lot of corrections if you wish to conquer twisting mountainous roads.

I really felt my test vehicle was more at home on the highway than attacking corners at speed.

Wet Traction

It was raining hard during the first part of my review. This gave me ample time to discern the characteristics of the Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus on wet pavement.

The tires offered good grip in the wet and braking felt confident as I was hauling down the large sedan to a full stop from higher speeds.

Acceleration was also excellent as the tires were able to grip the wet tarmac even in the presence of some mud, dirt, sand, and water puddles.

Snow Traction

I didn’t get the chance to test the Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus on snowy roads.

I talked to the owner of the Acura RLX about this and he told me the tires were more than adequate on light snow.

Of course, you will have to exercise restraint as you accelerate from a full stop since stabbing the gas pedal will only turn on the traction control system of the vehicle as the tires hunt for traction on slippery pavement.

Comfort

It is hard to judge the comfort levels of the Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus since my test vehicle came with 19-inch wheels and unpredictable suspension.

The ride was a bit harsh to be quite honest, and the suspension can’t seem to make up its mind as you traverse over rough patches of tarmac.

However, the suspension will settle down as you glide on smooth roads.

Noise

The Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus tires rolled silently even if the ride was a bit disconcerting.

The tires remained hushed even as I sped on the highway and they were still relatively silent as I navigated my way in the city.

Treadwear

The Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus tires in my test vehicle were aging gracefully. Yes, I found traces of wear upon close inspection on all four tires but this is par for the course, especially when I found out the tires were purchased more than 6 months ago.

The Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus tires fitted to my test vehicle are not what you could call cheap, but they are one of the best ultra-high performance all-season tires for the money.
