At first glance, the Klever looks like any other type of mud terrain tire. It is also equipped with radiated shoulder lugs to provide more traction and a better grip while retaining a self-cleaning feature to constantly maintain grip on loose, muddy, or slippery surfaces.

The large and aggressive treads are also equipped with angled sipes to provide more grip on the most demanding road conditions. What’s more, the Kenda Klever M/T is only worth half as much than other brands.

Kenda Klever A/T

The Kenda Klever A/T is an attempt to infuse a bit more refinement into a rugged and go-anywhere all-terrain tire. It is equipped with an aggressive symmetrical tread design and four staggered circumferential grooves to provide all-season traction and grip, even over light or medium snow.

The Kenda Klever A/T is manufactured using dual steel belts to improve the durability of the tire and promote even wear. The sidewalls of the tire are constructed with an additional rubber coating to deflect punctures, rips, and cuts as you forge over inhospitable terrain.

But the Kenda Klever A/T is also a smooth and comfortable highway cruiser. It is also quieter than other cheap all-terrain tires. Mud tires are expected to perform admirably on the most challenging off-road terrain, including deep snow. Few people will expect a mud tire to behave like a touring tire when driven on paved roads. It’s a compromise that all people are willing to expect when they buy a set of mud tires for their pickup trucks, sport-utility vehicles, and hardcore off-road machines.

But the Kenda Klever M/T KR29 wants to be different. Similar to the capabilities of the Kenda A/T, the M/T is supposed to retain all the ruggedness and go-anywhere capabilities of a mud tire with a mild sprinkling of on-road refinement. Considering the price point of the Kenda Klever A/T, all of this sounds too good to be true, or is it?

In this review of the Kenda Klever M/T KR29, I wanted to find out if the bold and ambitious claims of on-road refinement are really true. I was expecting the tires to perform flawlessly on muddy and challenging terrain, but how can the tires cope in terms of high-speed driving, comfort, noise, and wear?

Kenda Klever M/T KR29 Review: Features

The Kenda Klever M/T KR29 is a heavy-duty mud tire designed to cope with the demands of off-road pickup trucks and SUVs. The tire is constructed using an improved and more durable tread compound to promote toughness and outstanding durability in all types of off-road driving applications.

The most apparent feature of the Kenda Klever M/T KR29 are the radiated shoulder lugs. This feature will serve to increase traction on sand, mud, or snow, even of the tires are deflated to a lower tire pressure. The shoulder lugs are also designed to be self-cleaning to constantly maintain traction even on wet and thick mud.

The aggressive and chunky treads are equipped with sipes to increase the biting edges on the tread surface. The tire is constructed with a double-steel belted design to promote durability with lasting and even tire wear.

Kenda Klever M/T KR29 Review: Test Drive

My test vehicle for this Kenda Klever M/T KR29 review is a 2012 RAM 1500 SLT Quad Cab equipped with the 4.7-liter V8 gasoline motor and 6-speed automatic transmission. My test vehicle is bone stock except for the aftermarket 17-inch wheels and Kenda Klever M/T KR29 tires. I was excited to get cracking since this is my first time behind the wheel of a RAM pickup truck.

Dry Traction

The tires felt confident in the dry. Acceleration and braking were strong even as I hauled the heavy truck to a full stop from average speeds. The steering also felt precise and communicative despite the size of my test vehicle. I never imagined the steering of the RAM to be similar to a sporty SUV, but it seems the tires had a lot to do with how the steering feels when driven on dry, paved roads.

Wet Traction

It would be foolish to pilot the RAM at high speeds on a wet road, but the tires felt relentless as I sped on an empty patch of slippery tarmac peppered with water puddles and loose dirt. The tires felt they can take more than just a slight drizzle. I didn’t feel the tires were breaking traction even as I drove over muddy and rocky terrain, either. When it comes to wet and dry traction, the Klever M/T KR29 is one of the best I have tested considering the lower price point of the tires.

Snow Traction

Traction in the snow is highly impressive, too. The Kenda Klever M/T KR29 tires gave me the assurance that I can safely navigate over deep snow. I was able to test the tires on roads covered with more than 3 to 4 inches of snow and I never felt the tires were hunting for traction even as I was a bit too aggressive with the throttle and steering. Overall, the tires felt good on snow and ice.

Comfort

The Kenda Klever M/T KR29 tires are not the epitome of highway comfort. The ride actually felt a bit stiffer than I was expecting but it wasn’t too bad to give me backaches during my test drive. The suspension felt unsettled when you’re driving at high speed, but the ride will settle down once you traverse over a rough patch of road. If this sounds like the tires are more comfortable on the off-road than on smooth roads, you are correct.

Noise

Kenda claims the Klever M/T KR29 will roll quietly on paved roads, and they weren’t kidding. However, don’t expect the tires to be as silent as a mausoleum. The tires were a bit more subdued than the other mud tires that I tested, but the road noise and tire roar will intensify as you pile on the speed. In all fairness, the tires were indeed muffled at slow speeds, and that’s impressive.

Treadwear

This is where the problem starts. The Kenda Klever M/T KR29 tires fitted to my test vehicle were only about 4 months old (average of 2,500 or so miles) but there were already signs of accelerated wear on the chunky treads. Even though the wear pattern wear pattern was evenly distributed across the face of the treads, I find it hard to believe that the tires are capable of lasting 60,000 miles, which also happens to be the tread wear warranty offered on the tires.

Conclusion

The Kenda Klever M/T KR29 comes highly recommended despite the short tread life. If you are really bothered by this, you should consider the price of the Klever A/T and compare it with the top name brands. Prices start at around $140 to $150 each, which is less than half of what you can expect to pay from a similar set of mud tires from other famous brands.

There was a bit of confusion when I was creating this Kenda Klever A/T review. First off, the Klever A/T is not offered in the official US website. The only Kenda Klever tires that are available for light trucks are the Klever S/T, Klever H/P, Klever M/T, and the Klever H/T2.

Based on the features of the Kenda Klever A/T, I found out the Klever A/P is the nearest basis for comparison among the Klever family of tires. Both the Klever A/T and Klever A/P are hybrid tires designed for all-terrain use. However, the Klever A/P is a bit less rugged and subdued compared to the Klever A/T. Since I found it difficult to find a test vehicle fitted with the Klever A/P, this review will be focused on the Kenda Klever A/T all-terrain tire.

The Kenda Klever A/T is an all-terrain performance tire designed for light pickup trucks and rugged sport-utility vehicles. But unlike other all-terrain tires, the Klever A/T is also designed to be a bit more refined on the highway. Where other A/T tires are raucous and stiff on paved roads, the Klever A/T begs to differ since Kenda knows that you won’t be perpetually driving your SUV on challenging off-road terrain.

This all sounds great, right? Wait until you hear the price. You can expect to pay approximately $120 to $130 for each tire if you choose the Kenda Klever A/T. That’s more than half of what you would normally pay for a more expensive all-terrain tire. For all intents and purposes, it is easy to assume the Kenda Klever A/T as the bargain of the century in the all-terrain category, but what’s the catch?

Those were the things running in my mind as I prepared for this Kenda Klever A/T review. I was fortunate enough to acquire a 2011 Honda Pilot Touring SUV. The Pilot is fitted with stock 17-inch wheels and Kenda Klever A/T tires. From the looks alone, my test vehicle was transformed from a refined family cruiser to a capable off-road machine courtesy of the rugged design of the Klever A/T tires.

Kenda Klever A/T KR28 Review: Features

The Kenda Klever A/T KR28 is built for toughness and subdued refinement. It is equipped with a chunky symmetrical tread design with deep sipes to improve traction, grip, and cornering on all types of roads, whether dry, wet, or snowy. The tire is also equipped with four wide circumferential grooves and a staggered tread design to avoid hydroplaning, aquaplaning, or a general loss of grip on slippery or muddy surfaces.

The tire is constructed using dual steel belts to promote a quiet ride and longer wear. The sidewall is constructed with a 3-ply design to enhance the toughness of the tire. This feature is also designed to resist punctures and cuts as you crawl over unforgiving terrain. The tire also benefits from a protective rubber covering on the outside layer to improve air retention and prevent significant losses in tire pressure.

Kenda Klever A/T KR28 Review: Test Drive

My test vehicle is equipped with a 3.5-liter SOHC V6 gasoline motor with Honda’s proprietary cylinder deactivation system. With 250 horsepower and 253 pounds foot of torque on tap, I was looking forward to bit of minor off-roading with tons of highway driving in between.

Dry Traction

I have nothing bad to say about the capabilities of the Kenda Klever A/T KR28 on dry conditions.

The tires simply felt relentless as I sped on the highway and made a sharp left towards a rough patch of trail covered with grass and loose gravel.

The feeling of security was obvious as the tires made me feel the Pilot can forge over any type of terrain, barring deep mud and waist-level river crossings.

The tires also felt great on paved roads. Acceleration, braking, and handling was top notch.

Mind you, the tires are not built and designed for performance driving at high speeds, but they are more than capable for the task.

Wet Traction

I never felt the tires skipped a beat as I sped on a wet patch of highway. Although braking distances were significantly longer on wet roads, the tires felt they can handle more than just a slight drizzle.

I was able to test the Kenda Klever A/T KR28 on muddy roads with loose dirt and sand and the results were terrific.

Again, the tires gave me a feeling of security which dramatically increased my driving confidence when it comes to driving on varying road terrain.

Snow Traction

The Kenda Klever A/T KR28 tires also felt marvelous on snowy roads. The tires can handle up to 3 or 4 inches of deep snow without missing a beat.

Of course, you will need to apply light throttle pressure and judicious steering to navigate over deep snow. But again, the tires made me feel safe and secure as I was driving over a blanket of snow-covered roads.

Comfort

Since the Kenda Klever A/T KR28 is a cross between a mud tire and a touring tire, I was expecting the tires to be a bit more comfortable on the highway.

And you know what, I was right! I’m not saying the tires are more comfortable than a proper set of touring tires, but the tires felt smooth and comfortable despite the rugged tread design.

Noise

Surprisingly enough, the Kenda Klever A/T KR28 tires had low levels of noise and roar on smooth pavement, even at higher than average speeds. The tires were not whisper quiet, but they weren’t aggravating either. Road noise is relative to your speed. The faster you go, the louder the tire roar.

Treadwear

I knew that Kenda had to make some sacrifices to come up with a highly competent hybrid all-terrain tire. The tires fitted to my test vehicle were approximately 7 months old and have traveled a course of 4,000 or so miles since then. There were traces of wear on all four tires and some of the sipes were shallower than they used to be.

Conclusion

In a surprising turn of events, the Kenda Klever A/T KR28 performed flawlessly in the entire duration of my test drive and review. If your SUV needs a refined set of affordable all-terrain tires, the Kenda Klever A/T KR28 should be on top of your list.

My colleague was thinking about selling his trusty and dependable 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer. The car has served him well on numerous road trips and was at one point modified for track days with friends and family. I told him to buy a new of tires before advertising the sale online since the old Falken tires were ready to give up the ghost.

My friend was not in the mood to spend $400 or $500 on a new set of tires, so I recommended the Kenda Kenetica KR17. I told him the Kenetica KR17 is one of the most affordable all-season touring tires you can buy right now. He pulled out his smartphone, went online, and smiled. True to my word, he found Kenda Kenetica KR17 tires (215/50/R17) sold for less than $85 each.

We took the car to our neighborhood tire dealer and found a set of Kenda Kenetica for the same price online. My friend was not only impressed with the price. He was smitten by the sporty asymmetric tread design of the Kenda Kenetica tires.

He told me: “These are great looking tires! But are they any good on the road?”

I told him: “I guess we will need to wait and see.”

The Kenda Kenetica is an all season performance touring tire for cars, coupes, crossovers, minivans, and small SUVs. The tire was constructed using Kenda’s advanced NMA technology which incorporates a tread compound that is designed for durability, longer wear, and excellent performance on dry and wet pavement.

The Kenda Kenetica is equipped with a rather gorgeous asymmetric tread design with a notched center rib design. This feature is designed to enhance stability, steering feel, and braking on dry roads. The tire is blessed with large shoulder blocks to deliver crisp handling and better cornering stability at high speeds.

Kenda Kenetica KR17 Review: Test Drive

I agreed to drive my friend to his meeting, drop him off, and come back later while I test the tires. I must admit I have always admired the handling and cornering capabilities of the Mitsubishi Lancer compared to other Japanese compacts so I was excited to give it a go. My test vehicle is equipped with a smooth-revving 2.0-liter four-banger and CVT transmission.

Dry Traction

The Kenda Kenetica KR17 tires were unsurprisingly good on dry roads. Traction and grip were plentiful as I tackled a winding corner at higher-than-average speed. The CVT transmission was a bit of a letdown if you are used to the neck-breaking engagement of a normal automatic once you step hard on the pedal, but things get better as you pile on the speed. Braking was also magnificent as I hauled the Lancer to a full stop from 60mph. The steering was firm, accurate, and spot-on even on dry roads peppered with moderate amounts of sand and loose dirt.

Wet Traction

The tires felt wonderful in the wet, but things can get hairy as you approach higher speeds. Braking and cornering were still acceptable given the slippery road surface. However, I felt the tires could be better in terms of wet traction and grip. I felt the tail slide out a bit as I sped over water puddles on the highway, but this could also be caused by worn out springs and shock absorbers in the rear.

Snow Traction

There was no chance for me to drive in the snow. We talked to the local tire dealer about the winter performance of the Kenda Kenetica and the response we got was not inspiring at all. The dealer told us the tires are only applicable for very light snow duty and nothing more. They had a client who had to buy a new set of winter tires to replace his adequate set of Kenda Kenetica KR17s. Of course, given the low price point of the Kenda tires, I was expecting them to be average in terms of snow performance.

Comfort

The Kenda Kenetica KR17 tires were a bit more comfortable compared to other cheap tires. I have driven a lot of vehicles equipped with cheap tires and most of them are either not comfortable or silent enough, or are incapable of lasting longer than 30,000 or so miles. The Kenda Kenetica are not the most comfortable touring tires you can buy, but they won’t excessively ruffle your feathers, either.

Noise

Cheap tires are usually a bit noisier on the road and the same holds true for the Kenda Kenetica KR17. Tire roar was evident from above average to higher speeds, and you will still hear a bit of noise even at low speeds. It seems comfort and refinement were not the primary factors in developing the Kenda Kenetica KR17.

Treadwear

The Kenda Kenetica KR17 tires fitted to my test vehicle were brand new so I can’t comment on the wear characteristics of the tires. However, the local tire dealer had a few things to say about the tires. They told us that treadwear will be directly related to how you drive the car. If you are an aggressive driver, don’t be surprised if the tires will wear out faster than normal. But if you drive like a nun, you can expect the tires to last a bit longer. Is this a good deal? I guess it’s fair enough given the low price of the tires.

Conclusion

For reasons unbeknownst to me, my friend eventually decided to keep his car after all. You can buy a better set of tires if you wish to spend more, but if all you want is an all-season tire for normal driving, it is hard to argue with the value proposition of the Kenda Kenetica KR17.

I’m not a big motorcycle enthusiast. There, I said it. What I really meant is I do have a particular fascination for two-wheeled (and yes, three-wheeled as well) machines, but I’m not privy to the make and model of the bike.

Don’t get me wrong, though. I do prefer Suzuki motorcycles over Kawasaki bikes simply because I am thrilled with the performance capabilities of the Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa. I also owned a Suzuki SS100 scooter during my college days, which was severely abused by my fleet of overzealous drinking buddies during my younger years. But I am more obsessed over the four-wheeled variety than the typical two.

But my next-door neighbor is a different type of fella. Oh, he absolutely loves to talk about cars, but his baby will always be his trusty 2009 Kawasaki KLR650-A. The bike was actually a hand-me-down from his uncle who passed away in 2011. He used the bike for 4 years and held it in storage for a solid 2 years before his passion for riding was revitalized.

One fine Thursday morning, he asked me if I can help him clean, inspect, and restore his bike. My wrench monkey personality suddenly went into full swing. There’s nothing I love more than bringing an old machine back to life!

The first thing we noticed once we pulled the bike away from the garage were the bald tires. My friend wanted a durable yet affordable set of OEM dual-sport tires. He read about Kenda tires and asked me about the brand. I told him that Kenda is one of the best manufacturers of tires for motorcycles and utility vehicles. We went online and found a nice set of Kenda K270 Dual Sport tires at less than $75 per pop.

As we waited for the tires to arrive, we worked on the bike and checked the motor, brakes, suspension, clutch, and fuel tank. The Kenda K270 tires arrived 2 days later, which were the only missing parts of the puzzle. We had the tires installed, fired up the motor, and took a short test drive.

After a few minor adjustments, the bike was back in good shape. We agreed to go for a short road trip the following week so we can determine the performance capabilities of the Kenda K270 tires.

In this review, we took the Kenda K270 tires to the test to determine if they are a solid choice for an affordable and capable set of dual sport motorcycle tires.

Kenda K270 Review: Features

The Kenda K270 is a dual sport tire designed for highway and mild off-road applications. You can call it a hybrid tire that can handle a large heaping of dirt trails while remaining civilized enough to use on the highway. The Kenda K270 is equipped with DOT-approved knobbies that are designed for a 50/50 split between dirt and street use.
The front tires have a four-ply construction and can fit on 21-inch wheels that are 2.75-inch to 3.25-inches wide. The rear tires are constructed with four or six plies depending on the size you choose. The width of the tires are available from 3.5 to 5.1-inches in 17 to 18-inch wheel diameters.

Kenda K270 Review: Test Drive

The Kenda K270 tires are equipped with an aggressive and chunky tread design. Based on the looks alone, it is hard to imagine the tires to roll silently and smoothly on paved roads. Luckily for me, we had an entire weekend to find out how the tires performed on a variety of road surfaces.

Dry Traction

The Kenda K270 tires were relentless on paved roads as long as you maintain the correct tire pressure. We found out the tires will need to be pumped full of air in order to perform and grip admirably on smooth tarmac. If you try to speed on the highway with slightly underinflated tires, the Kenda K270 tires had a tendency to slip and slide at the slightest provocation of sand or dirt on dry and smooth roads. We released a quarter of the tire pressure as we traversed over sandy and loose gravel. The tires never skipped a beat.

Wet Traction

Traction and grip in the wet was commendable as long as you don’t push the tires to the limit. I have to admit that street-biased tires are better on both wet and dry pavement, but the Kenda K270 tires were able to maintain a good contact patch on smooth and wet tarmac. The Kenda K270 dual sport tires are rated to 94mph, but I didn’t have the balls to push past 60mph on a wet section of the highway.

Snow Traction

We talked to the tire dealer about the snow performance of the Kenda K270. They told us the tires are great for light snow applications, but that’s about it. You might have some problems if you are forcing your way over deeper patches of snow since the grooves on the tires are not deep and chunky enough to handle anything more than 2-inches of snow.

Comfort

I wasn’t expecting loads of comfort from the Kenda K270 but they’re honestly not bad at all. The bike felt stable and surprisingly taut over coarse tarmac.

Noise

The Kenda K270 was a bit noisy on smooth roads especially at higher speeds. I wasn’t looking forward to a silent ride since the chunky tread design is not designed to enhance the refinement of the tire. For all intents and purposes, this is a 50/50 tire for dirt and street use, and it certainly felt that way the moment I hopped aboard the bike.

Treadwear

After a long weekend of driving and thrashing the bike, the brand new Kenda K270 tires were beginning to show signs of wear. The edges of the tread blocks are beginning to round off after only a few hundred miles of aggressive driving.

Conclusion

It is hard to beat the Kenda K270 in terms of brilliant on-road/off-road performance and price. If you want an affordable and quality set of dual sport tires for your motorcycle, you should definitely take a closer look at the Kenda K270.
