I’m reaching out to the community to gather insights on fuel mileage for the 5.4L Triton engine. I’ve recently gotten my hands on a Ford truck equipped with this engine, and I want to know what to realistically expect in terms of fuel economy.
My Experience
Since owning the vehicle, I’ve been tracking my mileage and honestly, I have mixed feelings. Some days it seems decent, while others, it feels like I’m visiting the gas station way too frequently. Here are some specifics:
Truck Model: [Insert model]
Current Mileage: [Insert mileage]

I’ve been driving my 5.4 Triton for about three years now. I usually get around 14 MPG in the city and about 18 on the highway. It’s not the best, but it gets the job done!
That’s pretty much in line with my experience! I get similar numbers, although my highway mileage can sometimes reach 20 MPG if I drive conservatively.
I have a 2005 F-150 with the 5.4 Triton. City driving gives me about 12-13 MPG, but I surprisingly get around 21 MPG on the highway. I rarely take it on long trips though.
I’ve noticed that hills make a big difference. In my area, I average about 16 MPG on flat highway, but it drops to 12 in the city with lots of stoplights.
So true! The terrain definitely affects the mileage. I have similar experiences, especially when pulling a trailer. It really takes a toll on gas consumption!
I’ve had my 5.4 Triton for a few years now, and maintenance is key! Regular oil changes and keeping the air filter clean have really helped my mileage.
