Tire tread matters too! A well-worn tire could be dangerous on dirt roads. You want something durable to withstand both the rough terrain and possible livestock encounters.
Good point! I also carry a set of tire chains just in case I end up in a muddy situation. It’s saved me a few times.
You all have great advice! I think it takes some time to get used to driving in these areas. My first trip was nerve-wracking, but experience made me more confident.
Totally! The first time I drove in open range, I was so focused on the sheep that I forgot to watch out for potholes. Now I try to keep my focus spread out!
Anyone have funny stories about close encounters? I once had a goose decide to play chicken with my car! We won, but it was heart-stopping for a moment!
Ha! That sounds hilarious! I once had a cow just stand there and stare me down. I wasn’t sure if I should stop or keep going!
Reflecting on all this, I believe that the right tires paired with attentiveness makes all the difference. Open range driving can be beautiful, but we share the road with more than just cars!
