What exhaust pipes do you recommend for a Sportster 48?

I’m looking to upgrade the exhaust pipes on my Harley-Davidson Sportster 48, and I could use some advice!

Sound and Performance Preferences

Firstly, I’m really interested in the sound. I’ve heard a few different setups, but I want to know what options are out there that give a nice, deep rumble without being too obnoxious. Performance is also key for me, so if there are pipes that are known to enhance power or throttle response, I’d love to hear about them.

Compatibility Issues

Are there specific models that are more compatible with the Sportster 48? I’ve seen pipes listed for the Iron 883 and other models, but I’m not sure if they would fit my bike nicely without modifications. If anyone has insights, please share!

Where to Buy

I’ve checked a couple of online marketplaces, but if anyone has recommendations on where to buy – preferably reputable sellers – I’m all ears!

Installation Tips

Lastly, I’d appreciate any guidance on installation. I’m considering doing it myself, so if you have links to YouTube tutorials or installation guides, that would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I’m considering Vance & Hines Shortshots. I’ve heard they can significantly improve the throttle response and give a nice boost in horsepower. Anyone else have experience with them?

I had those on my Sportster, and they make a world of difference! The sound is amazing too!

I think the S&S Poppy Pipes are great. They not only look cool but really add torque. If you’re looking for something more aggressive, they’re a solid choice!

I agree with the S&S recommendation! They did wonders for my bike’s acceleration. Just be sure to rejet your carb for optimal performance.

How do they sound compared to, say, the Black Widow exhaust? I want something that really has that growl!

The Black Widow has a nice deep tone, but S&S tends to provide a more aggressive sound. It really comes down to personal preference!

I’ve heard the brand-agnostic ‘baffle removal’ can increase performance significantly without breaking the bank. Anyone tried that?

Baffle removal can help with throttle response but can be too loud for some. It’s a trade-off! Always check local noise regulations.

Interesting! But wouldn’t that void any warranty? Just trying to gauge the risks.

It could, depending on the manufacturer. Always best to check first. But talk about an instant power boost!

Has anyone tried the Reinhardt 2-into-1s? I like the idea of better torque for city riding where you need that quick takeoff!

I’ve been thinking about those too! They seem to enhance both torque and horsepower quite nicely. Plus, that unique sound is irresistible!

I’ve been riding a Sportster for years, and every pipe option just changes the bike’s personality! Can’t wait to test them out.

No matter which you choose, be sure to consult with a professional installer. It’s important for performance AND safety.

I’ve had my Sportster 48 for a couple of years now, and I’ve installed Vance & Hines Shortshots. The sound is absolutely amazing—deep and throaty! Highly recommend it if you’re looking for something that stands out visually too.

I second the Vance & Hines! They really change the bike’s personality. It’s not just the sound; the look is killer too. Perfect for a Sportster!

I’ve been using the Cobra Speedster Longs, and they’re fantastic! They have a unique sound that turns heads. Plus, they fit perfectly which is a big plus.

Does the Cobra setup help with performance too? I’m curious if I should consider them for the extra boost.

Definitely! The Cobra pipes seem to improve throttle response and overall performance. I’d say they are a solid investment for both sound and performance.
