What Are the Different Ford Keys by Year?

I’ve noticed that Ford keys have a lot of recurring problems. Key fob battery issues are the most common. Most 2015 and newer models seem to have this problem more frequently.

I can relate to that! My 2016 Escape has had the battery replaced at least three times. It’s quite annoying!

I’ve experienced key failure with my 2019 Fiesta. The key just stopped working one day. Did you guys have to reprogram your keys?

Yes! I had to reprogram my keys a couple of times on my 2018 Edge. It can be a hassle if you don’t have the right tools.

I find it funny how we all have similar experiences with these keys. It’s like a rite of passage for Ford owners! Anyone tried DIY fixes for key fobs?

I’ve tried! YouTube has some great tutorials, but I ultimately had to get a new fob for my 2017 Mustang. Some fixes can be risky, though.

For me, the battery life issue seems to depend on the key’s age. The older Ford keys really struggle after a couple of years. Any tips on choosing quality replacement batteries?

I’ve had good luck with Duracell batteries. They seem to last longer than others I’ve tried—definitely worth the price!

It’s interesting how Ford has changed their key technology over the years, though. My 2020 Explorer has this fancy key fob with a touch feature that I love. But do you think traditional keys will disappear?
