What are the best 285/55R20 all-terrain tires?

Seeking Recommendations for All-Terrain Tires

I’m in the market for new all-terrain tires and I’m particularly interested in the size 285/55R20. I’ve been doing some research, but I’d love to hear from others who might have experience with this specific size.

What to Consider?

Before diving into recommendations, here are some aspects I’m particularly focused on:

  • Off-Road Capability: How well do these tires perform in muddy, rocky, or snowy conditions?
  • On-Road Performance: Do they provide a smooth ride on highways or city streets?
  • Durability: Are they long-lasting? How do they hold up against wear and tear?
  • Noise Level: How loud are they on the road? I wouldn’t want something that howls on the pavement.
  • Price vs. Performance: Are they worth the investment? Would I be better off paying a bit more for a premium option?

Popular Brands to Consider

I’ve seen some mentions of brands like:

  • Goodyear
  • BFGoodrich
  • Nitto
  • Toyo

Have any of you found one brand to outperform the rest in terms of off-road and on-road performance?

User Reviews

If you’ve had a positive (or negative) experience with a specific tire, I’d love to hear about it! Any specific models that blew you away or fell short?

Final Thoughts

Thanks for any insights you can provide! I’m looking to make a knowledgeable decision so I can enhance my truck’s capabilities, especially for off-road adventures.

Looking forward to your recommendations!

I’ve had great luck with the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2. The traction in mud and snow is fantastic, and the tread wear is impressive for all-terrain use!

I completely agree! I’ve also found that the KO2 performs well on rocky trails, making it a solid choice for off-roaders.

I’ve used the Nitto Terra Grappler and while it’s good on the highway, I felt it struggled a bit with wet traction. The tread wear was decent, though.

That’s interesting to hear! I’ve always heard mixed reviews on Nitto tires. Maybe it depends on the driving style?

Has anyone tried the Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac? I love the look, but I’m really curious about their performance in rocky conditions.

The Duratrac is great in rocky terrains! They offer excellent grip and the tread wears slower than you’d expect for an aggressive design.

I switched to the Falken Wildpeak AT3W based on recommendations and I was pleasantly surprised! They provide reliable traction and have been pretty durable too.

That’s awesome! I was considering them for my next set. How are they on wet surfaces?

I’ve driven through heavy rains with the Wildpeak AT3W and had no issues with hydroplaning. They held up well, providing solid grip throughout.

The Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S has been my go-to lately. They excel in various terrains, but I did notice some wear after a few thousand miles.

That’s a bummer. Were you using them primarily off-road or just commuting?

Mostly commuting, which is surprising! I expected them to last longer. Just wondering if others have had similar experiences with tire wear?

I’ve had decent luck with tread wear on all my all-terrain tires, but my last set from a lesser-known brand fell apart too quickly. It’s tough to find good quality sometimes.

Absolutely! It’s a shame when a tire doesn’t live up to expectations. Reading reviews can help, but it can be hit or miss.

Why does tire shopping feel like an Olympic sport? You either need a PhD in tread patterns or you’re just asking for trouble!

I’m currently researching all-terrain tires myself! For the 285/55R20 size, I’ve found prices ranging from about $150 for budget options to $300+ for premium brands like Nitto or Goodyear.

That’s a great range! I think it also depends on what kind of terrain you plan to tackle. Some budget options perform surprisingly well.

For those on a budget, the Falken Wildpeak A/T3W is often recommended. I got mine for about $200 each during a promotion last month!

That’s true! I’ve heard good things about it too. Any tips on where to find deals?
