Thoughts on Upgrading to a 21 Inch Front Wheel for My Fatboy?

Looking for Feedback on 21 Inch Front Wheel Upgrades

I’m thinking about making some modifications to my Harley Davidson Fatboy and one of the main changes I’m considering is upgrading to a 21 inch front wheel. I’ve been exploring different options and wanted to tap into the community’s expertise for feedback and advice.

Why a 21 Inch Wheel?

I’ve noticed that switching to a larger front wheel not only affects the aesthetics but could also enhance handling and ride quality. Here are some reasons I’m intrigued:

  • Improved Handling: A larger wheel often provides better cornering capabilities.
  • Unique Look: The 21 inch wheel seems to give the bike a more aggressive appearance, aligning with my style preferences.
  • Compatibility with Mods: I want to make sure that this change works well with other potential upgrades, like fenders and brakes.

My Current Setup

Currently, I’ve got the stock 18 inch wheel. While it’s served me well, I’m looking for a fresh look and potentially better performance. Here are a few things I need to consider before making the jump:

  • Fender Clearance: Will my current fender accommodate a 21 inch wheel without needing modifications?
  • Brake Options: Do I need to change my brake components, or can I keep what I have?
  • Tire Choices: What are the best tire options available for a 21 inch wheel that fit my riding style?

Questions for the Community

  • Has anyone made this upgrade? How was the transition?
  • What brands or types of wheels are recommended?
  • Are there any setbacks or performance issues that I should be aware of before committing?

I appreciate any insights you might have, especially regarding compatibility and personal experiences with this kind of upgrade. Let’s chat about it!

Upgrading to a 21 inch front wheel is a game changer for the Fatboy! I’ve noticed improved handling and stability, especially in turns. It really enhances the ride experience.

That’s great to hear! Do you feel the change is noticeable in high-speed riding compared to stock?

Absolutely, the bike feels more planted at higher speeds. The 21 inch wheel reduces the choppiness over bumps, making it smooth overall.

But does it make a difference in off-road conditions? I occasionally ride on unpaved paths and am concerned about durability.

In my experience, the 21 inch wheel handles gravel surprisingly well. It provides better traction than you might expect!

Yes! The 21 inch wheel gives a more stable feel in the rain. Just be cautious; it can still slip on loose gravel.

Interesting! Have you tested it in wet conditions? I’m curious about stability then.

Sometimes, I wonder if we’re overthinking it. It’s still a Harley, right? They ride well regardless, don’t they?

That’s true, but a little upgrade can make a big difference. Just because it’s a Harley doesn’t mean it can’t get better!

What about the aesthetics? A bigger wheel really changes the look of the bike, which is a plus for me!

Totally agree! It gives the Fatboy a more aggressive stance that I love! Anyone else feel the same?

I do! It also helps that a larger wheel looks impressive at bike shows! Show-off potential, you know?

All good points, but I’ve heard that it can affect cornering at low speeds. Thoughts on that?

I felt a bit more effort was needed to turn at low speeds, but it’s not unbearable. You get used to it pretty quickly!

I’ve been considering this upgrade too! Could you share your favorite tire options for the 21 inch wheel?

I recommend the Michelin Commander II; it provides great grip and mileage. You really can’t go wrong with that setup.

Upgrading to a 21 inch front wheel can really change the handling of your Fatboy. However, you need to check compatibility with your specific model. I’ve seen great results with my 2016 Fatboy but had to adjust the fender clearance.

That’s true! I upgraded my 2018 Fatboy, and the responsiveness is just amazing! Definitely worth it if you’re okay with the look.

Have you checked if your model can accept a wider tire with the 21 inch wheel? Some Fatboys have tighter tolerances than others. Make sure to do a compatibility check first!
