Need Help with My 1965 Mustang Inline 6 – Maintenance and Upgrades?

That’s a great tip! Has anyone else dealt with the timing issues? I keep adjusting mine, but I can’t seem to get it just right.

Timing can be tricky! Make sure your timing mark is lined up properly. I usually double-check with a timing light for accuracy.

Great advice! I’ve always used a timing light. Is it just me or does it feel like tuning these old girls is like a fine art?

Haha, it definitely is! Kind of like trying to dance with a cactus, right? The inline 6 has its quirks, but it keeps me returning every time!

I recently restored my 1965 Mustang with an inline 6. For maintenance, I recommend staying original with parts if you can find them; it keeps the car true to its roots.

I agree with Kenneth! Sourcing original parts can be a challenge, but there are great online forums and antique shops that can help.

When it comes to aftermarket parts, just make sure to read reviews! I’ve had mixed experiences; some parts worked like a charm, while others…not so much.

Funny you mention that, Mark! I once bought a carburetor online that was more of a money pit than an upgrade. Live and learn!

One of my biggest challenges was finding the right brake parts. Many sellers advertise parts that don’t fit properly. Always double-check before buying!

Totally agree! That’s why I prefer dealing with trusted local shops whenever possible. The personal touch pays off.

I restored a 1965 Mustang inline 6 years ago. For sourcing parts, I found eBay and Craigslist helpful for both original and good-quality aftermarket options.

Just to throw a question out there – what’s everyone’s experience with upgrading the spark plugs? I’m contemplating some performance upgrades.

Dylan, I’ve used both standard and performance plugs. The difference wasn’t dramatic, but the performance plugs did give me a slight edge.

I must admit, working on my Mustang has been a financial rollercoaster! But seeing it come together makes all the stress worth it.

Absolutely! There’s a sense of pride in working with your hands. No matter how tedious the process, remember why you started this journey.
