Need Help with Harley Davidson Evo Ignition Module!

How do you check if the ignition module is faulty? I’m a bit of a newbie with these things.

A good start is to check the spark plugs. If they’re fouled or worn, it could indicate a problem with the module. You might also inspect the wiring for any corrosion.

Thanks! I’ll definitely look into that. Any other symptoms I should watch for?

Misfires are a big one! If you notice your bike is sputtering or the engine sounds uneven, that’s a sign something’s off. Could be the module or a mix of other issues.

Sputtering definitely sounds familiar. How do I know if it’s the module for sure?

Testing the module can be tricky. I advise checking for error codes using a diagnostic scanner. If your bike has a check engine light, that can guide you too.

That’s helpful! I wasn’t checking for error codes. I guess I could borrow a scanner from a friend.

Don’t forget to reset the module after checking for error codes! Sometimes a simple reset can fix glitches and get your bike running smoothly again.

I wish fixing bikes were always that easy! What about if it just won’t start?

If it won’t start at all, it might just be the battery. But if the battery is fine and it’s still dead, the ignition module might be the culprit. Check all fuses too!

I didn’t think of that! I’ll check my fuses as well. How often do these modules actually fail?

It varies, honestly. Some last for years without issue, and others can fail early, especially if exposed to heat or moisture. Just good practice to check every now and then.

That’s frustrating! But at least there are tips to troubleshoot. I might start a project this weekend.

I’m looking to upgrade my Evo ignition module too! I’ve read that performance chips can really enhance throttle response. Anyone had good results?

Absolutely! I’ve seen improvements after installing a Thunderheart Performance module. It really smooths out the ride!

What’s the difference between these aftermarket modules? Do some work better with certain bike setups?

Great question! I think some modules are tuned for specific exhaust systems or air intakes. It helps to match them well.

Has anyone compared the Thunderheart to the Daytona Twin Tec? It seems like they both have similar features but different price points.

I went with Daytona Twin Tec on my Evo, and I’ve loved it! Better fuel efficiency and smoother acceleration for sure.

That’s awesome! How easy was the installation? I’m not super handy, but I want to try it.
