Need Help with 95 Ford Ranger Fuel Tank Issues

95 Ford Ranger Fuel Tank Help Needed

I’m reaching out to see if anyone here can help me out with some issues related to the fuel tank on my 1995 Ford Ranger. I’ve been having some trouble, and I’d really appreciate any advice or insights.

Fuel Tank Removal

I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to remove the fuel tank. If anyone has a guide or some tips, that would be super helpful! I’m particularly concerned about the fuel lines and how to safely detach everything without damaging the tank.

Replacement Options

Also, my fuel tank has seen better days and I’m considering buying a replacement. Should I go for an OEM tank or are there any good aftermarket options out there? Any specific brands that you guys would recommend? I don’t want to end up with a dud that leaks or something!

Fuel Gauge Troubles

Lastly, I’ve noticed some weird behavior with the fuel gauge. Sometimes it works just fine, and other times it’s all over the place. Is this a common issue? Could it be related to the tank or something else?

If anyone has experience with these issues or can point me in the right direction for parts and repairs, please chime in! Thanks for the help!

Hey everyone! I’m struggling with the fuel tank on my '95 Ranger. Any advice on whether I should go OEM or aftermarket for replacement?

I recommend aftermarket tanks. They tend to be cheaper and work well but choose a good manufacturer to avoid issues.

I agree with Amy. OEM parts are reliable, but they can be costly! I replaced my tank with an aftermarket one about a year ago, and it’s still holding up just fine.

Cost is a huge factor. I’ve seen aftermarket tanks range from $150 to $300. OEMs can go upwards of $600. Have you thought about your budget yet?

My budget is about $300 max. I’m leaning more toward aftermarket if I can find a decent one!

You will be fine with that budget! Also, make sure to check reviews for the aftermarket options, as quality varies widely. Reliability is key.

Good point, Usellers. I went with a cheap aftermarket tank and had to replace it again in a year! Lesson learned.

Was that a specific brand, joneswilliam? I’m trying to avoid making the same mistake! Or, is it best just to pay more for peace of mind?

I got one from Spectra Premium, and it was well-priced and durable. Definitely do some research to save yourself from future headaches!

Thanks for the tip! I will check them out. Anyone have installation tips?

Make sure you’re ready for a workout! Those tanks can be very heavy. I always suggest getting a friend to help; it makes the job much easier!

Good advice! Friends are always good, unless they eat your pizza afterward…

I can’t agree with the friend part! You’ll just end up arguing about whose turn it is to hold the wrench! But seriously, having someone there is a lifesaver!

Reflecting on all this, I think I’ll prioritize quality over price this time around. Thanks for all the advice, everyone!

I had a fuel leak in my '95 Ranger last summer. It turned out to be a cracked hose. Check all your fuel lines; they can wear out over time!

Thanks for the tip! I’m experiencing a gasoline smell; I think I should inspect those lines ASAP!

Has anyone dealt with rust on the fuel tank? Mine looks pretty bad, and I’m worried about it affecting performance.

Yeah, rust can be a real headache! I had to replace mine. A good cleaning can help, but sometimes it’s just too far gone.

I once had the fuel gauge stuck on empty. Replacing the sending unit fixed that! Might want to check that if you have odd gauge readings.
