Need help finding the best 68 Impala tail lights!

Seeking Recommendations on Tail Lights for a '68 Impala

I’ve been diving into the restoration of my 1968 Chevrolet Impala, and I’ve hit a bit of a snag when it comes to the tail lights. I’m looking for advice on where to purchase good quality tail light assemblies, as well as suggestions on any modern retrofitting options available that might give my ride a fresh look.

Here are a few questions I have:

  • Where can I find OEM-style replacement tail lights?
I want to maintain that original look, so recommendations for specific vendors or parts distributors would be greatly appreciated!

  • Are there any aftermarket options that are worth considering?
I’ve seen some LED kits online, but I’m not sure if they would fit well or if they’d require extensive modifications. Feedback on what has worked for you would be super helpful!

  • What should I keep in mind when installing new tail lights?
Any tips or tricks from your own installations would be great. I’d love to hear about any pitfalls to avoid!

  • Compatibility with other models:
Are the tail lights from other years/models compatible with the '68? I’ve heard mixed opinions on this.

If you have bought tail lights or have tried installing some, please share your experiences or any links to trusted sellers. I’m trying to get this project moving, and your help would mean a lot!

I recently replaced my 68 Impala tail lights with OEM parts and I’m really happy with the quality. They fit perfectly and the brightness is fantastic!

That’s great to hear! I’ve been debating whether to go OEM or aftermarket. How did you find the price compared to aftermarket options?

I’ve had both options. With aftermarket, I got a pair that looked nice, but they were dimmer. I’d recommend sticking with OEM for the brightness.

I had a similar experience with aftermarket lights on my 67. They looked awesome, but just didn’t perform like I expected. OEM is the way to go!

Has anyone tried LED tail lights? I’m curious if they’re brighter than OEM and worth the investment.

I actually did switch to LED tail lights. They were brighter and had a modern look, but I had some fitting issues initially. Just be careful with the sizes!

Thank you for bringing up LEDs! I’m thinking about how they’ll last longer too, compared to stock tail lights. Anyone had them for a while?

I’ve had LED lights for a year now, and I love them! Just remember to check if your turn signals need resistors to avoid blinking fast.

So many choices! OEM for reliability, LEDs for brightness, and then there’s always the aftermarket gamble. Hard to decide!

Totally agree! Choosing the right tail lights can feel overwhelming. But hey, how about a group buy for better prices? Was just thinking out loud!

A group buy sounds fun! Just don’t forget to check the return policy. If they don’t fit like you hoped, it can be a hassle.

I’ve heard mixed things about aftermarket manufacturers. Some are good while others are just plain terrible! It’s a bit of a gamble.

Exactly! Just last week, I dealt with a couple of defective aftermarket sets. Never buying from that brand again!

Hey everyone! I’m on the hunt for replacement tail lights for my 68 Impala. What are the best options out there?

I recommend checking out classic car sites. They usually have good quality lights. Just make sure to match the bulb type!

Great tip! Any specific sites you’ve had luck with?

I had a good experience with Classic Industries and OPGI. They have great customer service too!

When installing, don’t forget to disconnect the battery first! It saves you from any electrical surprises.
