You’re right; the tuning can be a double-edged sword. I have a mild tune, and it feels great while keeping reliability in check. Experience with aggressive tunes seems to vary widely.
I’ve actually gone through several ECOBOOST variants and I still prefer the 3.5 for its towing capabilities. There’s something to be said for that extra power when you need it.

Totally agree! The 2.0 has its advantages, but when it comes to towing, the Gen 2 is king. What kind of mods have you put on your ride?
I’m still trying to weigh the pros and cons of getting one over the competition. Is the extra power really worth the cost, or does it compromise efficiency too much?

That’s a good point. While there might be a drop in efficiency, many of us find the trade-off worth it for the added performance.
I find that if you drive it moderately, the efficiency holds up pretty well. Plus, a good tune can really help maximize that aspect!
