Chevy AFM Problems: Which Years Should I Avoid?

So true, David! Sometimes it feels like we’re being ignored as consumers. It’s sad when such a common problem isn’t addressed properly by the manufacturer.

Yes! It’s amazing how many people talk about these problems, yet they still keep selling affected models. Are they hoping we won’t notice?

You’re not wrong, Michelle! Makes me think… do they only care about sales and not the actual driving experience? It’s about time they prioritized reliability over profits.

It can feel that way sometimes! But then there’s the other side—maybe some drivers don’t experience these problems at all. It’s all so mixed.

Good point, Gary! I’ve seen people who have no issues with AFM at all. Maybe it depends on driving habits or maintenance?

That’s an interesting perspective! I guess some might even joke that AFM stands for ‘Always Failing Mechanism’ at times! LOL!

LOL, Robert! It sure does! But in all seriousness, it’s worth paying attention to which models to avoid to save future repair costs!

I’ve had major issues with AFM in my 2011 Silverado. The engine cutouts were so bad, I almost gave up on it! Anyone know if switching to a tune could help?

You should definitely consider a tune or disabling the AFM entirely. A lot of folks have had good results from that!

Great suggestions! I’ve heard that changing the oil to a high-quality synthetic can also help minimize AFM issues. Anyone tried that?

Totally! I switched to synthetic and noticed a difference in performance. It might not fix everything, but it can’t hurt!

My 2015 Tahoe started running rough. I got the lifters replaced under warranty, but the problem still persists. Is this a common issue?

Yes! I’ve read many threads about lifter issues in '14 and '15 models. It’s frustrating that it seems to be a widespread problem. Have you tried any aftermarket options?

Aftermarket lifters? I actually went with some ACDelco lifters and haven’t had issues since! It’s worth considering if you’re looking for a fix.

Nice! I might have to look into that. I just keep hearing horror stories about AFM. It’s good to hear some positive feedback!

Honestly, if I had known about these issues, I might have avoided buying my 2012 Silverado altogether. It really feels like a gamble buying these trucks!

Totally hear you! Chevy could really improve their communication about these problems. It feels dodgy sometimes.

Haha, I almost bonded with my mechanic over this whole AFM drama. It’s like therapy—‘let’s talk about our Chevy woes!’

Reflecting back, I remember my dad’s old truck had a similar issue. I guess some things never change in the auto industry!
