I hear you! It can vary a lot depending on the vehicle. My buddy had a tough time with his Fox 2.0s on his Wrangler too. Definitely a vehicle-specific challenge.
The Fox 2.0s do seem more adaptable. I installed them on my F-150 without any issues. If you have the right tools, it’s a smooth process. A torque wrench is key for those bolts!
Exactly, john99! A torque wrench can save a lot of headaches down the line. I used one for my Bilsteins and it made it so much easier to get everything secured properly.
Bilstein’s ride quality is awesome, but don’t overlook the installation part. I took my time and still found a couple of things I needed to tweak afterward.
It’s a good reminder that post-install checks are important! Anyone else experience adjustments post-install?
I didn’t have to adjust much with my Fox series, but I did lock everything down and double-check after my first drive. Glad I did because I missed a couple of bolts!
For those wondering, make sure you have a good jack and jack stands! I couldn’t imagine doing this work on the ground without them. Safety first!
Totally agree! I had a scare with my jack last time when it slipped. Lesson learned!
Haha, that sounds scary! I had my own scare when I accidentally dropped a shock while installing the Bilsteins. Everyone was fine, but the shock was not happy!
I recommend watching a couple of YouTube videos before installation. Some of them helped me avoid rookie mistakes. Any videos others found helpful?
I found one that was a complete walkthrough for the Bilstein 6112. Super helpful! Wish I had that for the Fox 2.0.
I’ve been using the Bilstein 6112 for over two years now. They have shown great durability on rough terrains. I’ve had no leaks or issues with performance so far.
That sounds promising! I’ve heard the Fox 2.0 is also reliable but requires more frequent maintenance. Anyone have thoughts on that?
I switched from Bilstein to Fox 2.0 last year. The ride is definitely smoother, but I have noticed some wear that I didn’t see with the Bilsteins. Maybe it’s just how I drive?
Interesting perspective! I’ve always found that the style of driving plays a huge role in impact. What kind of terrain do you typically drive on?
The Bilstein 6112 has worked wonders for me on rocky trails. They feel sturdy and have not let me down yet. I can’t say the same for my previous set of Fox 2.0, which faded out after a year.
Wow! That’s quite a difference in performance. Would you say that the Bilsteins are worth the investment?
I think both brands have their pros and cons. Bilstein is durable, but I feel like the Fox shocks offer a more plush ride overall. It’s a trade-off depending on what you’re after.
Couldn’t agree more! It’s all about personal preference. I’ve kept my Fox 2.0 maintained, and they’ve treated me well!
Has anyone had any crazy maintenance issues with either of these? I really want to avoid those unexpected trips to the shop.
