Best Phone Mounts for 3rd Gen 4Runner?

Seeking Advice on Phone Mounts for 3rd Gen 4Runner

I’m looking to find the best options for mounting a phone in my Toyota 4Runner, specifically the 3rd generation (1996-2002). With the need for easy access while driving, it’s crucial that I find a mount that is both practical and secure.

I’ve seen a variety of mounts out there, but I want to hear from others who own a 3rd gen 4Runner. What have you all been using? Here are a few things I’m considering:

  • Compatibility: I need something that fits well in the limited space of the dashboard.
  • Accessibility: It should allow for quick access to my phone for navigation and calls.
  • Stability: I’ve read that some mounts can wobble or fall off during off-roading, which is a concern for me.

Here are a few options I’ve come across:

  • Dashboard mounts: Seems like a popular choice, but I’m worried about the adhesive.
  • Vent mounts: Easy to set up, but do they obstruct airflow?
  • CD slot mounts: I don’t use my CD player, so this could be a viable solution.

If anyone has personal experiences or recommendations, please share! Links to products are also welcome, especially if you found something that works perfectly.

Thanks in advance for your input!

For the 3rd Gen 4Runner, I’ve found that the ProClip phone mount is a favorite among many users. It’s sturdy and can be mounted at various locations for easy access.

I totally agree! I love how flexible it is. I’ve had mine for over a year, and it’s holding up great.

I prefer the RAM Mounts for its versatile arms and durability. It’s easy to adjust and holds my phone securely, even on bumpy trails.

Great point! I’ve heard those are really useful for off-roading too. Which specific model do you have?

I’m using the Dash Mount from

The Dash Mount is solid, but I think it blocks some air vents. Still, it’s super easy to install, which is a plus!

I tried the magnetic mounts, but they kept falling off on rough roads. Just a heads up if you’re looking for something rugged!

That’s a bummer! Maybe a clip or bracket style would be better for more stability?

Exactly, I recommend staying away from magnetic ones if you drive off-road often! The mount I have is rock solid and never budges.

What about getting a mount that attaches to the CD slot? I haven’t tried it, but it’s supposed to be easy to access and install.

I’ve seen those too! They seem handy but does it block the player? Just curious.

Good question! I think it might block it if you want to use it. I’d prefer one that doesn’t take up that space.

Overall, everyone’s input here is so useful! Makes me wish I had tried more options before settling on mine.

Absolutely! It’s interesting how different preferences can change the entire experience. I’m definitely reconsidering my choice now!

I’m looking into phone mounts for my 4Runner too! I’ve heard that the Dash Mount Pro is pretty good. Installation seems straightforward, just a few screws and bolts. Any tips?

Definitely consider using a torque wrench during installation. It helps avoid over-tightening! Also, make sure the mount is compatible with your phone size.

I installed the Ram Mount last month. Super sturdy! The only challenge was finding a spot that didn’t obstruct my view. I recommend starting with the passenger side for a better line of sight.

That’s a great point! I was also concerned about visibility. Did you need any specific tools for the Ram Mount installation?

I used a standard screwdriver and a drill. The instructions were pretty clear! Just take your time with the drill to avoid bending any brackets.
