Anyone tried a motorcycle helmet with a transition visor?

I just got a HJC IS-17 with a transition visor and it’s been a game changer! I can hop from sunny roads to shaded paths without swapping visors. Highly recommend!

That’s true! I’ve noticed the same issue, especially with some older models. Could it be better to just use a tinted visor for longer rides?

I’ve ridden with the AGV K1 with transition visor and love the versatility! Though, I’ll admit, laughing at my reflection when it doesn’t darken quick enough is a nice touch.

That’s awesome! I’ve also read good things about the transition visor for HJC helmets. Do you find it gets too reflective at times?

It’s fascinating how far helmet technology has come. I wonder if future models will improve their ability to tint faster. Anyone have theories?

I think a combination could work! Switching between tinted and transition might give the best of both worlds depending on the ride.

You know, no one ever really talks about the fogging issues with transition visors, especially during colder months. I ride with a Scorpion EXO-R420, and it’s been okay but tricky sometimes.

Fogging is a real issue, especially if you get caught in sudden weather changes. Have you tried anti-fog treatments?

Honestly, the best helmet I’ve had is the Icon Alliance with a transition visor. It’s comfortable and fits my head like a glove!

I’ve been using a transition visor for a few months now, and the clarity is fantastic! Just remember to avoid ammonia-based cleaners. They can damage the coating. Microfiber cloths work great for gentle cleaning.

Great tip! I use a gentle soap solution instead. It helps maintain the transition feature without any issues. Also, rinsing with water after a ride keeps it clean longer!

I’ve had a transition visor for a while too, and I agree with jefftorres about microfiber cloths! They’re the best. Does anyone else have suggestions on how to store them to avoid scratches?

I’m all about that transition life! I usually keep my helmet in a soft bag when I’m not using it. It prevents scratches and keeps it dust-free. Any other storage tips?

Nice idea! I heard that placing a desiccant pack inside can help reduce moisture and keep the visor clear. Has anyone tried that?

That’s a smart move, aperez! I’ve also used lens cleaning sprays specifically made for helmets. They’re designed not to damage the anti-fog and transition coatings, which makes a big difference.

I haven’t tried those yet. What brands do you recommend? I want to avoid any cheap stuff that could ruin the visor.

I’ve used the Cycle Care product line, and they’re fantastic! Safe for all visors, and they have a great anti-fog solution. Definitely worth checking out, hamiltonbrian.

Thanks for the recommendations! One thing I’m curious about is whether the transition visors work equally well in all types of light. Anyone have experience with that?

That’s an interesting question, nelsonbrian. I’ve noticed that they tend to be slower at changing in cloudy conditions. But they do well in direct sunlight. It’s all about that UV exposure!

Good to know! Any tips on ensuring they activate more quickly?
