Anyone tried 14 inch ape hangers on their Sportster?

A backrest sounds useful, but it might change the look of the bike. A sporty appearance can matter too, right? Still, comfort is key for long rides!

Has anyone noticed how 14 inch bars affect cornering? I feel like it might make maneuvering a bit trickier.

I thought the same! I’ve had to adjust my approach to turns since switching to ape hangers. It’s all part of the learning curve.

Exactly! It’s a learning process. But overall, the style and comfort are worth the adjustment. Just keep practicing cornering techniques.

I occasionally feel like I’m fighting the bike with the ape hangers. Has anyone else experienced this? How do you find a balance?

Yes! It can be a bit of a workout at times. Maybe consider a lighter handlebar option if it becomes too much!

Don’t sweat it too much! Sometimes it feels like you’re wrestling with the bike at first, but you’ll get used to it. Just think of it as staying fit while you ride!

I’ve been thinking about upgrading to 14-inch ape hangers myself! Just keep in mind that some states have laws about handlebar height. In California, for example, it’s limited to 15 inches above the seat. Check your local regulations!

Good point, davisjoel! It’s essential to check restrictions. Also, I’ve heard that riding with too high a handlebar can be uncomfortable for long rides; comfort is key!

14-inch ape hangers look awesome on a Sportster! Make sure any cables or lines are long enough, though. You don’t want them getting stretched out, leading to a dangerous ride!

Exactly! And don’t forget about stability. Taller handlebars can change your bike’s handling; just practice in a safe area first!

I installed 14-inch bars on my Sportster last year. It’s a solid setup! Just remember to adjust your mirrors and keep visibility in check. Safety first!

That’s a must! You also want a good riding posture; those high bars can lead to strain if not positioned properly.

I’ve always been a fan of the ape hanger look! Just curious, has anyone faced any legal issues with them? I’m in a more rural area and have never checked the laws.

This is all so useful! I love the idea of ape hangers but afraid they’ll be a hassle. Has anyone done a long trip with them? How did it feel?

Yes! I rode from here to the coast with 14-inch bars. It was surprisingly comfy, but you have to watch for wind resistance and adjust your posture.

Be sure to have some gloves and strong grips too! You don’t want to end up with sore hands after a long ride. Ape hangers look great, but comfort is crucial!

True! Just try to keep a balanced riding style. It’s like riding with your arms up at the gym – it can be fun but tiring after a while!
