Anyone else having issues with the 3.5 EcoBoost?

Discussing Problems with the 3.5 EcoBoost

I’ve recently run into some issues with my Ford’s 3.5L EcoBoost engine, and I wanted to open up a discussion for anyone else who might be experiencing the same challenges. I know this engine has been popular, but I’ve heard it comes with its own set of quirks.

Common Problems

From my research and some conversations with fellow owners, here are a few common problems I’ve seen highlighted:

  • Turbo Lag: Some owners have reported a noticeable delay in power delivery, especially when accelerating from a stop.
  • Overheating: I’ve read about instances where the engine tends to run hotter than it should, leading to potential damage over time.
  • Oil Consumption: A few users mentioned that they noticed higher-than-expected oil consumption, which can be quite concerning.

Maintenance Tips

If you’re considering purchasing a vehicle with this engine or currently own one, here are some maintenance tips that might help:

  • Regular Oil Changes: Keeping up with oil changes is crucial. It seems that synthetic oil performs best in this engine.
  • Monitor Coolant Levels: Make sure to check coolant levels frequently and look out for any signs of leaks.
  • Use Quality Fuel: Higher-octane fuels may help mitigate some performance issues.

Seeking Advice

If anyone has tips or experiences to share regarding repairs or maintenance that could help with these issues, please chime in! Whether it’s a reliable mechanic or DIY fixes, all advice is welcome.

Let’s keep this conversation going to help others who might be looking into this engine or dealing with current issues.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and stories!

I’ve been having issues with my 3.5 EcoBoost for a while now. The turbocharger makes this awful whistling sound. Anyone else experience this?

Yes! My turbo failed last month. It was really expensive to fix. What were you quoted for yours?

I’ve heard about a lot of turbo failures on these engines. It’s so frustrating because we expect better from Ford! Anyone found a reliable fix?

I also had a water pump leak recently. It started with a small drip, and then it became worse. Thankfully, my dealer sorted it out quickly.

Same here! It’s annoying that these issues seem so common. Do you think it’s a design flaw?

I’ve had a timing chain issue, too. Engine lights kept popping up, and turns out it was linked to chain wear. Cost a fortune to replace!

I’m really starting to wonder about the reliability of the 3.5 EcoBoost. It seems like everyone is dealing with similar problems.

Exactly! It makes me think Ford needs to address these issues before I consider another vehicle!

Curious if anyone has had luck with aftermarket parts for these issues. I’ve been hesitant to go that route with my EcoBoost.

I went aftermarket for my turbo and it worked well! Saved me a lot compared to dealer prices.

It’s like we’re all in a club of EcoBoost misery! But hey, at least we can share our war stories, right?

Haha, true! If only we could get T-shirts for that club!

I feel like if I’ve heard one complaint, I’ve heard them all. But seriously, should we be this worried about our EcoBoost engines?

We definitely need to band together! Maybe we can talk to Ford about these issues. They can’t just ignore us!

I’ve definitely been noticing poor fuel economy with my 3.5 EcoBoost. I’m averaging around 15 MPG, which seems low for a newer truck. Anyone else experiencing this?

I’m in the same boat, Mark. I thought it would be more efficient. My average is close to 14 MPG! I wonder if it’s a common issue.

It’s interesting to see this discussion about mileage. I read that aggressive driving habits can significantly affect the 3.5 EcoBoost’s performance. Have you guys noticed any changes in your driving styles?

I think there’s definitely something up with the EcoBoost engines. My brother has one too, and he’s getting similar mileage. It goes from bad to worse when towing.

Towing makes a huge difference! I try to be gentle on the throttle, but it seems impossible to keep good mileage when loaded.
