Overview of P0299 Chevy Trax
The P0299 error code points to a turbocharger issue that affects many Chevy Trax owners. If you’ve come across this code, it’s important to understand the symptoms and the recall implications related to this issue.
Symptoms of P0299
When your Chevy Trax throws the P0299 code, you might experience some of the following symptoms:
- Loss of Power: Your vehicle may not accelerate as it normally would, particularly when merging onto highways or climbing hills.
- Check Engine Light: This code triggers the check engine light to illuminate on your dashboard.
- Poor Fuel Economy: Drivers often report a noticeable drop in fuel efficiency, which can increase your overall driving costs.
- Unusual Sounds: Listen for any strange noises coming from the engine, particularly from the turbocharger area.
Recall Insights
Many drivers are rightfully concerned about potential recalls. To check if your Chevy Trax is affected, start by contacting your local Chevy dealer or check the official GM recalls website with your VIN. Recall notices can sometimes include repairs related to turbocharger functionality.
Troubleshooting Steps
If you’re not under a recall or want to explore DIY fixes, here are some steps you can take:
- Inspect Hoses and Connections: Check your turbo system for any loose or damaged hoses that could affect performance.
- Look for Oil Leaks: Any leaks might indicate a more serious issue that needs addressing.
- Check the Wastegate: A stuck wastegate can prevent the turbo from working correctly.
- Use a Diagnostic Tool: If you have access to a code reader, clear the code after checks to see if it returns.

Same here! I feel like I’m driving a turtle. Any ideas on what might be causing this?
The P0299 error indicates a problem with the turbocharger, often related to insufficient boost pressure. It can be caused by leaks, faulty sensors, or issues with the turbo itself. Definitely worth getting it checked out!
Thanks for the insight! I’ve had a few strange noises from the engine lately. Could it be related?

Absolutely, engine noises can be a symptom of the turbo issues associated with P0299. Not to mention, I’ve noticed my mileage has dropped significantly. Anyone else?

I also have a drop in milege! It’s like my Chevy Trax just drinks the gas now. How costly are repairs usually for this error?
If you’re lucky, it could be just a sensor replacement, but I’ve seen estimates up to $1,500 if the turbo needs replacing. It’s a daunting repair, for sure.

Ouch, that’s a lot! It makes me wonder about the reliability of the Trax overall. Has anyone had luck with after-market parts?
I’ve heard mixed reviews about after-market parts. Some swear by them, but others have had worse experiences. It might be worth considering if you’re in a tough spot with finances.
I get that. But the reliability issues also make me laugh. It’s like Chevy designed a ‘turbocharging with a twist’ game!

Haha, good one! It’s true, we didn’t sign up for this kind of twist. I’m just trying to keep my car’s performance from feeling like a roller coaster ride!
Totally! When I find a way to fix this, I’ll definitely share. We need to stick together as Trax owners!
I’m dealing with the P0299 error too! I received the recall notice last month, but my dealer has been really slow in scheduling the repairs. Anyone else facing this issue?
I totally understand! My dealership had me wait almost three weeks to get an appointment. It’s like they don’t care about the issue!

I got mine repaired last week, and so far, the car seems to be running better. Keeping my fingers crossed it stays that way!
I haven’t had the repairs done yet because the dealer is booked solid. It’s really frustrating, especially since I rely on my Trax for commuting.
I’m sure it’s annoying, matadavid. I was in the same boat, but I found another dealer that could fit me in sooner. Maybe it’s worth checking around?
