I’ve been having some trouble with my Volkswagen Tiguan and wanted to see if anyone else has experienced similar issues. Recently, I’ve noticed that my car seems to be burning oil at a rate that’s higher than usual. It’s starting to concern me, especially since I rely on my Tiguan for daily driving.
What I’ve Noticed
Oil Light: The oil warning light has flickered a couple of times, but it hasn’t stayed on.
Oil Level: When I check the oil, I find that it’s low after just a few hundred miles. I’ve been topping it off regularly.
Smoke: There’s a faint smell of burning oil when the engine heats up, and I’ve seen a little bit of smoke, but not a lot.
What I’ve Tried
Oil Change: I had the oil changed at a local shop, hoping that it would help. Used the recommended oil type, but it hasn’t made a difference.
Inspection: I took it to a mechanic who suggested that it might be related to worn piston rings or valve seals, but they didn’t do a full diagnostic yet.
Seeking Advice
So here I am, trying to gather information:
Diagnostics: Has anyone done an oil consumption test or had similar diagnostics performed? What should I expect?
Experiences: If you own a Tiguan, have you faced this problem? What steps did you take to resolve it?
Solutions: Any recommendations on what oil type works best or how to tackle this issue?
I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences. Thanks in advance for your help!
I did take mine to the dealer, and they said it’s a common issue. Unfortunately, they didn’t offer many solutions. Just a lot of talk about oil specifications.
