Aftermarket Exhaust Options for My BMW 340i?

I’m looking to upgrade my BMW 340i’s exhaust system and I’m a bit overwhelmed by the options available. I want to improve performance and get that sporty sound, but I’m not sure where to start.

Types of Exhaust Systems

  • Axle-Back Systems: These are typically the most affordable and replace the section of the exhaust from the rear axle to the exhaust tips. They can enhance sound but may have limited performance benefits.
  • Cat-Back Systems: This option replaces everything from the catalytic converter back to the exhaust tips. It’s more expensive but also provides better performance and sound enhancements.

Performance Considerations

When considering aftermarket exhaust systems, here are some factors to keep in mind:

  • Material: Stainless steel is durable and resists corrosion, while aluminized steel is cheaper but may not last as long.
  • Sound Level: Some systems focus on being loud and aggressive, while others are designed to maintain a more subtle tone. Be sure to check sound clips online before purchasing.
  • Power Gains: Manufacturers often provide data on power increases. Look for systems that show a positive dyno graph to back up their claims.

Questions for the Community

  • What brands have you tried and would recommend?
  • Are there any specific models I should avoid?
  • How does the installation process look for these systems? Is it a DIY job or better left to professionals?

Any input would be greatly appreciated! Looking forward to your thoughts!

Hey everyone! I’m looking into aftermarket exhaust options for my BMW 340i. What systems do you recommend for better performance?

Look into the AWE Tuning exhaust. I’ve heard great things about the horsepower and torque gains, plus it sounds amazing!

I’ve had a Remus on mine and the gains are noticeable! I think around 15hp and a bit more torque. It also really enhances the driving experience!

That’s what I’m after! I’m curious if anyone has tried the Borla system?

The Borla is a solid choice! It’s known for a more aggressive sound without being annoying. Gives a nice boost to performance as well!

I’ve been considering the armytrix exhaust. Not only does it sound great, but with the valve control system, you can change the sound profile on the fly!

That sounds fun! I’ve read that it can give around a 10-20hp increase too.

Performance aside, a good exhaust can really change the car’s character. It’s super satisfying to hear that rumble when you hit the gas!

Right? It’s like a completely different car!

But don’t forget, some exhaust systems can drone a lot over longer drives. Make sure to test before you buy!

That’s a great point! I don’t want something annoying on longer trips.

You might want to consider a cat-back system for the best mix of performance and sound. Has anyone tried that?

I’ve looked at a few cat-back systems, but I’m worried they might be too loud. Any advice?

I’ve tried the AWE Tuning exhaust on my 340i. It’s got a deep, aggressive growl that really turns heads! Highly recommend it if you’re looking for something bold.

Sounds great, but how is it at highway speeds? I’m worried about drone.

AWE Tuning is fantastic but check out the Remus exhaust too! It offers a more subtle sound that’s really classy while still letting the power shine through.

I agree, Remus is nice. It’s perfect for daily driving, not too loud but you can still enjoy the sound.

I went for a Fi Exhaust to get that aggressive tone. My friends keep saying it sounds like a monster, but it’s a bit loud even for my taste sometimes!

That’s great if you want flair, but isn’t that a headache during long drives?
