The Continental PureContact is the ultimate blend of performance and practicality.  It represents the tire company’s must fuel-efficient touring tire for drivers who want the best of both worlds. With high ratings for fuel efficiency plus some of the best wet weather road-gripping technology in the business, the PureContact is for the driver who wants a little bit of everything:  performance, economy, and luxury.  There is no need to sacrifice performance for fuel efficiency when you’ve got the engineering power to make it all happen in one tire.

A true all-season performance tire… that’s just what the men and women in the labs at Continental have created in this eco-friendly, low rolling, high performing, all season tire designed to take you from zero to awesome no matter what the weather.

Continental PureContact Review: Detailed

Dry Traction

Chamfered tread blocks allow the tires to grab the road and their uniquely designed treads are engineered for grabbing, gripping and getting you going too, with greater acceleration grip.   Shorter braking distances are made possible by the same tread technology that allows the tires to grip the road superbly in dry (and wet) driving conditions.

On a side note, Continental has added Tuned Performance Indicators on the tread so that you can quickly see how well your tires are wearing and when it’s time to replace them.

Rating Verdict – Excellent

Wet Traction

For drivers who want to push through even the heaviest of rainstorms and not have to worry about hydroplaning, this is an ideal tire. Siped independent tread blocks create the added traction you want when travelling on rainy streets and highways.

Aside from traction, wet braking is a specialty on this tire, which is backed up by an overwhelming majority of Continental PureContact reviews from other owners. It’s been designed with an eye towards drivers who live in wet areas.  The +Silane technology and asymmetric tread pattern is what makes the difference here as this tire delivers superior grip and excellent wet braking.

Rating Verdict – Excellent

Winter Traction

Continental’s Traction Grooves, which are vertical ridges within the tire’s circumferential grooves, give the PureContact some additional traction in snowy weather. From the back roads of rural Wisconsin to snowy highway conditions in the Northeast corridor, drivers can feel a bit more secure driving on this tire. That said, it in no way offers the same grip as a dedicated winter tire, but for an all-season it does a good overall job of getting you around.

Rating Verdict – Good

Cornering Grip

Cornering grip and stability are another plus for the PureContact tire.  The strong outer shoulder delivers tighter cornering abilities and responsive handling for you and a longer-lasting tire for your wallet.

The asymmetrical tread technology means not only can these tires handle corners with exceptional capability, but they also help in winter and wet conditions.

Rating Verdict – Good

Steering Response

Steering is precise and very responsive for a touring all-season tire, which was a nice surprise. I’ve seen many tires that offer excellent dry/wet traction but lack the responsiveness and crispness behind the wheel. Continental’s PureContact doesn’t disappoint here.

Rating Verdict – Excellent

Ride Comfort

Continental’s ComfortRide Technology means you’ll get an extra layer of cushioning rubber that is designed to soften your ride. That extra cushion, as well as the bump-absorbing sidewalls, does indeed make for a more comfortable and smoother ride on all but the roughest of potholes and other road imperfections.

Rating Verdict – Good

Noise Comfort

Very often with performance tires you’re sacrificing noise for superior handling but not with these PureContacts.  Drivers repeatedly report being surprised at the low noise level of these tires, even on imperfect highways.  Thanks to the asymmetric tread design that is computer-optimized, noise comfort is engineered to a “T” for your ultimate enjoyment of the road.

Rating Verdict – Good

Even tuners who put their tires through a lot report being satisfied with treadwear, which is guaranteed for 70,000 miles.  Continental’s +Silane additive increases tread life as well as increasing fuel efficiency.  The tires wear evenly due to twin steel belts which offer uniformity.  They’re also reinforced with polyamide for extra durability.

Rating Verdict – Excellent

Continental has priced the Pure Contact a little lower than many of its main competitors. For example, on a 215 /60 R16 95V you will find it priced right around $118. The same size in the Bridgestone Serenity Plus is approximately $126. It’s $132 for the Pirelli P7 All Season Plus, and $138 for the Michelin Premier AS.

For the performance you can expect from this tire it makes it a solid value for the money.

Rating Verdict – Excellent

Final Verdict

There’s not a lot of negatives that you can say about the Continental PureContact with EcoPlus Technology. This tire was created to perform, and drivers will not be disappointed, especially if you do a bit of wet weather driving. The engineers seem to have a direct line to drivers’ needs particularly when it comes to wet traction, noise comfort and tread endurance.

Although the PureContact represents the least extreme of Continental’s performance tire lineup, they’ll impress even those drivers who expect top performance from their tires under any conditions, which is evidenced by an overwhelming majority of reviews as well.

Value presents itself in two ways with this tire… the technology ensures that fuel efficiency is increased, and a long-lasting tread (UTQG 640) means car owners who choose this tire will be enjoying superior traction, amazing wet braking, and overall excellent performance for many thousands of miles to come.
